My 6800 is PCIe my chipset, so my chipset should work with the 8series, correct?
Would any of the less than $150 8 series Nvidia graphics cards be a significant upgrade from my 6800?
If you have a 6800 series PCIe card, you can run an 8000 series card, yes. On XP, you'll get good DX9 performance, and you'll get DX10 support on Vista. Depending on where you shop, you can find the 8600 GT and GTS cards for under $150; overall, (per the Tom's Hardware VGA charts), those cards offer 60%-80% better gaming performance over the 6800 cards.
Reply:Should it work, sure how much of an upgrade it will be will depend on how fast the the GPU for the old card is and what hardware goodies it includes. I think the 6 series supports up to vertex shader 2.0 which is a problem for some of the newer games the 8 series I think supports vertex shader 4.0 and I think it supports DX10 hardware level should you ever decide to go with Vista (haha right?)
Reply:I doubt it the cards below the 8800 gt %26amp; 8800 GTS' are garbage
