For graphics card nvidia to run dual cards using SLI, does both card hav to be the same eg 8800GTS n 8800GTX?

will it work? Also if mine was a manufacturer overclocked version, will it work with non OC versions?

SLi requires matching cards. So, it would have to be a pair of 8800 GTX cards running at the same speed, not an 8800 GTX and an Ultra, or any other non-matching combination.
Reply:card must be the same either 2 8800 gts or 2 8800 gtx

if you mix 2 different cards then it will not work lol
Reply:it is strongly recommended to have the same graphics card for SLI to work. if you went out today and bought a computer with 2 graphics cards they wouldnt sell it with 2 different ones. thats a hint. dont know if it would damage anything if ya did use 2 diff ones. remember having 2 big graphics cards may mean you have to upgrade the powersupply going to your computer :-).
Reply:they will work the same but the might try to lock up or underclock one to get them at the same frequencies.

Your best bet is to buy 2 of the same like 8800GT's and if you

want diff. brands just overclock one of them to the smae specs as the other

Then your good

Good Luck Bro
Reply:well yes, but your system will default to the slower speed of the two cards. just like memory. you can use 4200, 5300 and 6400 memory but the system sets itself up to the slower 4200 memory speed, yes on the oc also, but it also everts back to the slower less quality board
Reply:From what I understand Yes it would work but like all things in computers you lose the benefit of the more powerful card. For example you must put the slower card in the primary SLI slot while the faster one goes in the secondary SLI slot. I would recommend that you go to the nVIDA site as they have a web area dedicated to SLI and questions just like yours are being answered all the time. I would really read up on this as it does get tricky.

According to this site at nVIDA you can not mix lets say, an 8600 GT with an 8800 GT but you can mix model numbers as long as the GPU is the same, except for the ultras, in their case, they must both be lets say, 8800GT ultras. Good Luck.
Reply:Usually same GPU core even with different brands and speeds will work:

Reply:it should be ok if you have a kickass motherboard
