A Corsair HX-520 will power a non-SLI/Crossfire system running a high-end graphics card fine.
You should note that Crysis is a *very* graphics-intensive game, and even the most high-end graphics cards will struggle on high settings.
Unlike the other posters, the 8800 series *can* play Crysis in it's highest settings combined with a multi-core processor and quality memory, although the FPS will fall below 20 in extreme cases (on higher resolutions) without an SLI setup.

The minimum requirement for a 3870 is 450W, but I would recommend a 550W at least.

2 PNY GeForce 6800GT Graphics Cards in SLI, how do I get them to work?
Right now I'm running the original drivers that came in the box with my cards. When I enable/disable SLI, there is absolutely no difference in my FPS while playing two different graphics intensive games. When I try to download the latest drivers for SLI, I get an error message stating "The NVIDIA Setup program could not locate any drivers that are compatible with your current hardware. Setup will now exit." When I install just the regular NVIDIA drivers I run fine until I enable SLI, then freeze as soon as I start a game. Can anyone help?

Make sure that the BIOS of both of your graphics cards are the same. The later drivers make it so you don't need the same revision, but its always less problematic if you have the same BIOS revision on both cards. Make sure that the SLI bridge is seated correctly. Uninstall the drivers for your existing cards. You can just force generic video card drivers on them in device manager, reboot, then load the latest nVidia drivers. Then with the new drivers, go to the nvidia control panel app, and enable SLI. Good luck, sometimes it takes some work to get it working, but it is SO worth it!

I am looking for a new Graphics Card to restore my old computer. I am looking for a NVidia GeForce. My OS is XP Pro and I am looking to play games such as Counter Strike: Source, Half Life and Garry's Mod. There are so many types of Graphics Cards, that it confuses me. When looking at models in a similar line the second number is their relative speed in line (think of rating the card on a scale of 1-10 where 1 is terrible and 10 is really awesome).
So in the newest ATI line an ATI 3450 is '3' for 3rd generation (the newest) and '4 of 10' so a little under midrange.
In the Nvidia line an Nvidia 8400 is '8' for 8th generation (their newest) and again '4 of 10' so a little under midrange.
If someone tried to sell you an Nvidia maddog 4200 you would know that it is 4th generation (really old) and '2 of 10' really slow....so not worth your time.
So a lot of backup to give some recommendations:
As the other poster said the Nvidia 7800's, 7900's, 8800's are all awesome cards (7th and 8th generation and top end) but they are expensive.
If your card slot if AGP I would look at either an Nvidia 7600 (no 8 series cards for AGP) or an ATI Radeon 2600 (no 3 series cards for AGP). Both are strong midrange cards and newer generation cards so will not have trouble playing games.

Is it possible to use an Nvidia and a Radeon graphics card to up the performance of my pc?
They are both old graphics cards, (Nvidia FX 5200 and Radeon 9200) and I wasn't sure if i could make my pc run better using them both with a single monitor or not. I know i just need to upgrade but currently cannot.

Dual Monitor Support From Graphics Cards?
Can anyone advise how I tell if a PCI graphics card can support dual screens or not? My work PC uses a graphics card with two monitors, one runs off the 15 pin adapter, ad the other runs of the DVI. Do all grpahics cards have the ability to run dual screens in this way, or di I have to fork out for specific models?
Reason I ask is that I need the same set up at home (but dont have quite as much disposable income!). Thanks in advance

What does it mean when you have a graphics card that says up to 224 MB of memory?
I just bought a notebook and I forgot what type of graphics card I have. I found out that it is an Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 950. Is the computer supposed to be using the whole 224MB of memory to get a better picture? I'm not sure how the dedicated graphics cards work. My desktop is old and the graphics card does not have memory on it.

I have read about people who take advantage the low cost:power ratio of graphics cards and hook a whole bunch of them together and use them for supercomputing purposes other that graphics. Sorry Sasho -- not correct. Matrox is outdated and their top tier cards are only good for some workstations. Look to any nVIDA based 7900-7900-8800 class card forthe best, or an ATI based card X1900. ATI has the best IQ (image quality) in my opinion, save the newest $650.00 behemouth nVIDA based 8800GTX -- but the 8800 is DX10 based and XP won't be able to see any DX10 benefits (only Vista will use DX10). So right now I would say a Sapphire X1900XTX or eVGA 7950GTX would be the best right now unless you can afford the 8800GTX and will use Vista very soon.

Anyway the X1650 is far superior to the 9600. You are looking at a difference of night and day. One major difference is shader model 2 and 3. The X1650 is shader model 3 and the 9600 is shader model 2.
The difference is quite a difference in shadow rendering which makes games that use realistic shadows look awsome.
Go with the X1650 you will be happy!

Just based on the card and the computer I'm almost certain (as the first answer is) that you have an AGP 8x slot. The competitor to this is the Radeon X1600 series and I do not reccomend them over this card, I've had experience with the X1600 series, I find they are rather weak performers compared to the 7 series. But the only 7 series I've had are PCIe cards so that may be a factor as well.

Just don't forget that it has to be the AGP version before buying (or before writing the letter to santa haha)

Installing 2 graphics cards so i can have dual monitors?
not looking to buy a new card (i know i can and it would be better) but i have my onboard graphics card and i have a pci and a agp slot open...the pci card is newer than the agp so i would prefer to use that. i plugged them in and connected them to 2 monitors and it reads the pci...i take that out and it reads the onboard..how do i get xp to read both? is there a program? thanks

Actually running two vidcards depends on your motherboard; the easiest way to use multiple video cards is to get an SLI compatible mobo.

Here's what my PC already has:
Windows XP Home Edition
2.7 Ghz Celeron processor
512 MB RAM
25 GB of HD space left (out of 60 GB)
64 MB Intel Extreme 3D Graphics card (integrated, it sucks)
My PC has 2 or 3 PCI slots availble, so I need a PCI card.
I was planning on getting just a 256 MB PCI video card. I really only want it to get the games that I already have to run smoother and so I can actually get the newer games to run. Also I have about $80 in gift cards for Best Buy (from my birthday a couple months ago) and not much cash in my wallet, so I would like to get one around $80-$120. I would also like something thats easy to install, but if it's not I can always get my computer game geek Uncle to help me out :-)

First of all, that 2 or 3 PCI slots that you're looking at, is NOT PCI-E. There's a difference. Current videocard supports PCI-E, and not PCI. Considering how old PCI graphic cards are, you'd probably won't be able to find any now.
But I suppose your motherboard has an AGP slot? They are usually black in color. Or if it's quite recent, maybe it will have PCI-E 16x which is use for graphic card. Either one, you won't find both AGP and PCI-E 16 on your board.
You didn't specify the exact model of your motherboard so we can't tell if your system supports AGP or PCI-E. If you still have your motherboard manual, you can easily find the info in it.
AGP is a little old, and your options may be limited, but it doesn't matter. Here's where your system limitation comes in.
Celeron is a budget processor, meaning the performance is compromise for the sake of budget. It's not a fast CPU. Also, your system ram is quite limited. A 1gig RAM (1024MB) is bare minimum for today's gaming.
So, that two will pose a problem, or some kind of limitation to how fast your CGA card can run. Certain instruction are run by your CPU and if your CPU is slow, a very fast graphic card will spend alot of time waiting for the CPU. So, my point here is that a very fast graphic card will be a waste of money as it will be bottlenecked by your system..
The older GeForce 6600GT would probably suit your system but they are rare these days. You might look at GeForce 7600GS. Not the best card but it should do well in your system, as your system may not handle anything faster than that anyway. Both cards I mention there, they have AGP8x and PCI-E16 version, buy one that's compatible with your motherboard.

8800 GT is a great video card but it most certainly is NOT the most powerful one at the moment and you certainly should not pay $400 for one.
9800 GX2: $500+ (quite a bit more powerful than the 8800 GT)
9800 GTX and 8800 GTX: $400+ (roughly the same)
8800 GT: $200+ (best bang for the buck)
*8800 GTS G92 variant: $250+ (almost same as 8800 GT but more expensive, comes in 512 configuration)
ATI 3870: $275+ (little worse than 8800 GT)
*8800 GTS G80 variant: $150 (discontinued, still better than GS, comes in 320 and 640 MB configuration)
ATI 3850: $225+ (roughly equal to 8800 GS)
8800 GS: $165+ (good value for the money; not good for SLI)
9600 GT: $165+ (good value for the money; great for SLI)
You will need a solid 550 to 650 watt PSU to power any of these and a solid 700 to 1000 watt PSU to power any of these in a SLI or Crossfire configuration.

My sony vaio VGC-RC310G currently uses a NVIDIA GeForce 7600GT (256MB) and I am looking to upgrade it. My budget is around $300 but I might go a little higher. I also heard that running two lower grade graphics cards gets better fps than a single higher grade graphics card for the same price. What are your suggestions?

Personally, I suggest you spend less as you get seriously diminishing returns when you get into the $300 nVidia cards. There are two setups I would recommend to you:
But first off, ignore anything said about SLI (nVidia dual card), as it will not work on your motherboard. You have an Intel 945P chipset, which supports X16/X4 crossfire (ATi's SLI). Only nVidia chipsets support SLI:

Normally I would recommend classic HD 3870 crossfire to you, as it is cheaper than the HD 3870 X2, but because your motherboard will cripple the bandwidth of the second card (16x for the first card, only 4x for the second), I recommend you stick one HD 3870 X2 (two GPU's on one board, functions like 2 cards) in your one PCI-E 16X slot. This will perform roughly the same as 2 3870's (also the same as two 9600GT's).

The 3870x2 is a wonderful card and will take any single nVidia card. That said, crossfire takes CPU, and on a pentium D 940, you may have some reduction in performance. As for nVidia's answer to this, the 9800GX2, it's buggy, only likes nvidia chipsets, hogs power, and is overpriced.
Given this, I think the 8800 GTS 512mb (G92 based) is by far the best option for you. Furthermore, I would spend that extra money you have to upgrade to a Core 2 based cpu (Conroe, Allendale). Unfortunately, your motherboard has a low front side buss, so your limmited to the Pentium Dual Core line. That said, their architecture is way better than the Pentium D. You'll really see the difference when you overclock. These CPU's reach over 3.0ghz easily (so does the Pentium D), but you get vastly superior performance on par with Core 2 Duo E68's at stock. I'll recommend the e2200 as it has the highest stock speeds if your not comfortable overclocking:

To run two graphics cards, you need a motherboard with two PCIe 16x slots that can handle SLI (Scalable Link Interface). Your Vaio does not have that.
Since Sony has a lot of proprietary stuff in its machines, I doubt you can swap out the motherboard for an SLI board anyway.
And before you upgrade to a card like the 9800GTX, beware that the card might not fit in your Vaio. Some of these cards are pretty long and may bump into your drivebays, considering that Vaios usually have pretty compact cases. Measure and make sure a card will fit before you buy it!
Also, some of the really high-powered cards like the 8800GT draws 130 watts of power. Best make sure your Vaio's power supply can provide sufficient power.

It also is smaller and takes less power and produces less heat than the 8800 which is good for a computer like the Sony Vaio which, while it is stylish and quiet, is not very well cooled for a hot running card like the 8800. I used to have a NVIDIA 7800 card with 256 MB and this new 8600 card blows it away. With all the onboard RAM, it takes a lot of pressure off the central processor which makes playing DVD's and video cutscenes in games much more smooth. I've also noticed a huge difference in how well my games play. On the 7800, playing games like Battle for Middle Earth II, for example, I had to turn down some of the settings to get smooth framerates. Not with my new card. I can play that game and even newer ones with all the settings on full without any glitches. I have an 2.6 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor and my motherboard has the Nvidia bridge that can use Forceware.

Video cards are connected to the motherboard, and they either use the computer's RAM or their own RAM (VRAM). The point of having a memory card with higher memory is so that images and 3d graphics display better on your monitor. Most video games nowadays recommend a 256MB card, as it is more powerful than the 128MB card most base-model computers are sold with. Computers can handle 2 video cards in some cases, where each of the video cards handles half of your monitor. The greater the graphics card is, the better images and games will look on your computer.
Reply:It offloads processing from the CPU. Every time a graphics card polls the CPU to move data from standard RAM, it takes time and uses CPU ticks. If the memory is on the card, the CPU doesn't get polled so much becasue it can dump larger chunks of data at a time, so it isn't switching back and forth.
These days, most video cards already have CPU of their own. Then, all they have to do to get data from storage is to use the bus architecture to fetch it. This saves a lot of CPU ticks too.

But whatever your video card can not process itself is dumped onto the CPU. Given the massive amount of calculations many modern games require just for the AI (let alone physics, sound, per-loading the next area, handling scripted events, etc.) a video card is pretty much a necessity unless youve got 4 independant processors and dont mind installing the individual video files (OpenGL, vertex and pixel shader, etc.) which would normally come installed on the card you purchase to make things easier on you.

Another problem is going to be size in your tower. Does your tower have enough space to hold them ? Heating is a concern. Since high end cards have a fan on them each, it may be wise to get a bigger tower or some extra fans in side.
Either way 2 cards is a great thing. You just have to look at your setup your finances and what performance and dollar amount you want to spend. Good Luck

Unfortunately for the aforementioned mid-range Mac dreamers, this is far from a viable upgradeable graphics card solution. For a start, Apple has said that users won't have access to the graphics card and even if hackers succeed in gaining access to the slot, there are currently no stand-alone MXM compatible graphics cards on the market: that makes this the modern day equivalent of the infamous mezzanine slot from the original, supposedly expansion slot-free CRT iMacs. So, if you're a budget-minded Mac user comfortable with tinkering around in your machine, you better get back to praying for that Cube resurrection.

You would obviously need to plug a monitor into it to use it. That should be a given.
To use two video cards at once, you will usually need to enable the second video card. You do this by going to the Display Properties and enabling the second monitor.

If the card is SLI you can use the SLI bridge or a small DVI/VGA cable (that's if your graphic card has a DVI %26amp; VGA connecetr) that plugs into the DVI connecter on each grapic card. Reply:Yes a monitor cable will have to be plugged into one of them. You will want to plug it into the better of the two if you know what one it is and should be the newest one installed. It may take a little time for your monitor to respond to it being plugged in. If it doesn't want to read a signal try restarting your computer with the monitor cables plugged in and it should finely start to read a signal. Give it some time though after the restart and the no signal message, it may go past it and if not try restarting again.

is there a way to use both at the same time each using a different screen?

Its really upto your BIOS. Most BIOS will disable the onboard when you enable your AGP or PCIE video. If you can set it to where both are on, windows should detect two video cards when you boot up and you should see two displays on the Display settings in control panel. If so, make sure both are enabled and boom you got twin displays
