Reply:get the hd2600xt http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as... because

- its the best deal for your money

- it can max games like cod4, bioshock and unreal tournment 2007 at a decent resolution if the rest of your system is up to date

- its only $97

- it comes with ghost recon advanced warfighter 2 for free

LOL hows it garbage ?? i really doubt a card that can run most games on high for under $100 is considered garbage and yes of course the 3850 is better but you have to take in perspective that the games he wants to run aren't necessarly resource hogs and he might not have the powersupply to run it
Reply:check out the requirements on the cover of the game and buy a card that suits your needs and budget.
Reply:DO NOT get the 2600...its garbage...get the 3850...best bang for buck card out at the moment, and within your price range.

I started with onboard video and it pretty much sucked.

Then I got an Nvidia 8400 when it was brand new and on sale for $30 and it was so much better than onboard video that I was impressed.

I was so impressed that I spent some more money and got an Nvidia 8500 when it was on sale for $60. There was a difference but not a huge one so I was a bit disappointed.

By this time I really wanted to see what things would look like with everything turned up so I picked up a Radeon 2600. It was a good solid card and let me play Oblivion (my game of choice) at 1024x768 with things turned pretty high so I was mostly happy. Then I tried Crysis when it came out and found out that the 2600 just wasn't going to cut it.

So I bought a Radeon 3850 and found out that my power supply wasn't sufficient. Then bought a better power supply and tried Crysis again and it was much much better than my older 2600, unless I cranked the video past 1024x768.

So having had both of the cards in debate here I know the plusses of both of them.

The 2600XT is an excellent card for the average user and isn't likely to require a PSU upgrade. Don't confuse it with the less powerful 2600Pro though. If you want a similar speed Nvidia card you are looking at an 8600GTS but you will be paying more money for it. If you find a screaming deal on an 8600GT it would be a decent midrange card as well.

The 3850 isn't a huge deal more money (usually about $169) and is much more powerful than the 2600XT. 360 stream processors vs 120 means a big increase in power. If you are a serious gamer you will probably be happier with the 3850...but the power comes at a price, you had better make sure you have the space, fans to get rid of heat, and power supply that is up to the task

Just my experience but hope it is useful to you.
