Can I switch out motherboards and graphics cards and keep all of my other components?

I want to upgrade to a PCI Express video card. To do this I will need to upgrade my motherboard as well. I am currently using an ASUS A8V Deluxe motherboard http://www.pcstats.com/articleview.cfm?a... with an AMD FX-55 (Socket 939).





Besides the CPU, what other hardware compatibility issues will I encounter? I would just like to swap the motherboards and video cards, and keep all of my current components.

Anything I should be worried about?

There will not be any hardware conflicts if you swap motherboards. Both support the FX-55 and DDR memory. However, if you are using Windows XP, it may require you to activate Windows again in some cases. Most software will not have a problem with these except those that track hardware changes, either for product activation or otherwise.
Reply:As long as everything is compatible and your software isn't very bitchy.
Reply:While it is possible, it can cause many headachs incldung software thinking it is a new box and all the other parts needing to reregister.
Reply:Everything else should work, just make sure that if you are using IDE for your hard drives, optical drives, etc that you have enough ports on the new motherboard. The ram should be fine a (just check to make sure that the pin count is the same [184?]) but maybe a little slow due to new higher speed ram that has come out. also make sure that your power supply has a 24 pin connector to power the MB and a plug for the videocard....
