Is dual graphics cards worth the extra money for PC performance?

I'm working on building a custom computer. The processor is AMD FX - 60, all components will be SLI ready, with about 2 GB of DDR SDRAM, the one graphics card is nVidia GeForce 7900 GTX. Is the extra graphics worth the $500 bucks? Also, in order to work properly will the graphics card need to be the same manufactorer (if I decide to add the extra card in the future, with some more RAM)? Thanks!

Nobody uses that much horsepower. Unless you are using the pc for a database that is accessed by thousands or something. Or into animation graphics. There is no need for 2 gigs of ram either. But if you are content on having it you should check out the Mushkin ram or Corsair best out there!
Reply:I say avoid the 7900 GTX altogether and get the 7900 GT - for 60% of the cost you get 95% of the performance. It is always helpful to have extra RAM, especially if you multitask. However, don't buy a 2Gig stick, instead go for 2 x 1 Gig or even 4 x 512Mb sticks, if you can spare the space. Report Abuse

Reply:I rum 2GB ram and XFX GE Force (nVidia) 7800 GT Extreme Graphics Card (1 off) and this can rip it up, get two cards if you want to waste money.
Reply:Well i use an old Nvidia FX5500 and it still kicks for me.

If you don't want to waste your money, then don't.

If you feel like you want to have the latest and greatest, then do it.

The only reason i got my Nvidia was because embedded Intel extreme was like a lama's ****.

With the 2 gig of ram your PC will run very smooth anyway.
Reply:hay if u bought a $1000 proccessor go a head and get the 2end video card, u got the slot. as far as i know you have 2 have the same cards
Reply:don't waist your money for nothing
