Can i have an Explanation of sound cards and Graphics cards?

'Discuss the type of graphics cards and sound cards that are available and considerations that should be given before the purchase of either'?????

Can i have an Explanation of sound cards and Graphics cards?
First, if you list your pc model number this would eliminate people having to guess what you have and having to list every single possibility, and what their advantages are....you can do that in a web search engine.....that is just allot of ground to cover....

If your wanting to buy a new pc, mention that as well...maybe even a model number your looking at. What are you trying to accomplish? Are you a video editor, a gamer, if you dont do any intense tasks on your pc you wont gain anything from either one....

If you have some more specific info, feel free to email me....
Reply:Video cards like - vga, agp, pci

sound cards - 8 , 16, 32 bits

Can Dell Laptops Be Upgraded With Better Graphics Cards?

I'm getting a good deal on a Dell Latitude Laptop, which is a business model, so the graphics card is quite poor. The rest of the computer is quite powerful and I would like to be able to play some games on it at least, so I was wondering if it's possible to upgrade the graphics card with a different model later i this laptop. I am obviously not a computer expert but I like to think I'm not tooooo awful. Thanks for any help.

Can Dell Laptops Be Upgraded With Better Graphics Cards?
Practically speaking, no. Video cards on laptops, even the better ones are typically integrated into the mainboard and thus not upgradeable w/o a major swap involving taking the laptop apart.

If you really really want better graphic performance, have an ExpressCard slot on the laptop, and have the money to spend, you can look for an external GPU solution such as Asustek's XG Station - pretty much an externally connected slot to add a desktop-level video card.
Reply:the problem with laptops is you cant upgrade much. hard drive, cd rom, ram, yes you can. video card, no. its built onto the motherboard, and unlike desktops, there isnt a slot to add a vid card to.
Reply:most newer laptops have integrated video.

I have an old Dell Inspiron with an actual video card. the upgrade has a whole whopping 4Mb of memory on it...lol

But they make USB video cards and I believe they make a card for laptops.

Which of these 2 graphics cards should i buy tonight?

i have a chance to buy one of these 2 graphics cards,

1. evga 8800 GTS 640mb, for $219.00

2. evga 8800 GTS 320mb, for $185.00

is there really any diffrence? i was thinking the 320mb version just because it will fit my budget alot more but if theres any HUGE diffrence in performance i will think twice about the 640mb version

Which of these 2 graphics cards should i buy tonight?
1!!!!! because it has more memory. more memory = better gaming and graphical experience
Reply:Go with #1, I have a EVGA 8800GTX 768MB....It's amazing. and plus it's only $34 More and you gain double Vram....It's really obvious
Reply:I guess it all depends on your budget. If you can afford the 640MB one, I would suggest it. Otherwise I would go for the 320MB one.
Reply:wow get the gts 640mb thats avery good price i just paid $ 279 for 8800 gt oc 512mb

What Graphics Cards can play Age of Empires 3 in the Nvidia Geforce class?

Also will said card play Battles of Middle Earth 2

What Graphics Cards can play Age of Empires 3 in the Nvidia Geforce class?
Any series from GeForce 7 and up should be OK as long as the model is 500 and up. If the model is 800 and up, then that would be ideal since it would mean that you can play most other modern games as well. You should also look for a suffix of GT over GS since it would provide better performance. Here's an example of the series, model, and suffix:

GeForce 8600 GT

The 8 in 8600 is the series. The 600 in 8600 is the model. The GT is the suffix.

If you are looking at notebook GeForce video cards, then some additional designations are used to indicate that they are mobile models. They usually have the designations such as Go or M. Some examples are:

GeForce Go 7600 GT or GeForce 8600M GT.

I hope you were able to make sense of that since the video card naming convention can be confusing and difficult to explain in a general manner.

How many graphics cards does SLI take?

i am currently in process of buyign a graphics card, but want SLI, everything i am buying is SLI capable. motherboard, ram, power supply, and graphics card. If there is a graphics card that is SLI, and has two monitor ports, is that all i need to make SLI work? or do i have to buy two graphics cards? it has the ports, but i have heard different things, if i go with a 9600 GT 8800 GT graphics card, what is the watts i will need for a power supply about? thanks!

How many graphics cards does SLI take?
SLI requires minimum 2 graphics cards. You can run a single card, or you can run SLI of them. With the 8800GTX, 9800GTX, GTX260, and GTX280, you can run "Tri-SLI" which is 3 cards in SLI (again, you could still run those in SLI with only 2 cards). You get "quad SLI" by using 2 9800GX2, since those have 2 GPUs each (basically SLI on 1 card).

I'd recommend a 8800GT, since those in SLI are hard to beat. Just make sure your power supply has 2 6-pin cables, and you'll be fine.

As far as SLI RAM goes, it's not really necessary for SLI. It just a second profile that the nvidia boards will automatically detect and overclock your RAM to (once you enable it in the BIOS). Several other brands offer the same thing (it's called EPP), but it's just not branded with the Nvidia SLI logo.
Reply:SLI is an interface that allows two or more graphics cards to combine their processing power. So you need to buy at least two cards. Each card is different re: power requirments, so I cannot generalize beyond suggesting that you get a PS that's good to 750 W or so if you intend to build a max effort system. You'll also want to ensure that your case has fans enough as you'll be dissipating all that heat in the box and you'd not want the MOBO or GC's to melt down.

Astrobuf
Reply:SLi is 2 NVidia Graphic cards put into one motherboard. You can not mix and match graphics card for SLi either. It has to be the same model and brand. So if i wanted 8800GT SLi, I would need to buy 2x EVGA (or whatever brand) for it to be in SLi. Go with 8800GT SLi btw. Don't bother with 9600GT.

Watts is how much the power supply will be able to provide for a system. Go buy a 500-750W PSU to accomodate your system.

I was wondering if Laptops can be updated on their graphics cards?

either driver or hardware itself; mine is a 256MB NVIDIA® GeForce® Go 7300 TurboCache*

and some new games are asking to upgrade your graphic card drivers; Is it possible for a laptop ?

I was wondering if Laptops can be updated on their graphics cards?
you can upgrade if you have an MXM graphics card but those are on newer laptops. You could get an external PCI-E adapter and install a PCI-E graphics card but I think you can't use ur laptop screen so you have to get a monitor biut what's the point of having a laptop when you can't carry it? By the way the extrnal PCI-E adpter doesn't run off ur laptop battery you need to plug it in to a wall socket. Basicly for desktop replacements.
Reply:you need new DRIVERS.. that means you go to www.nvidia.com and download and install the new drivers for your graphics card

Is SLI with 2 8800 GTX graphics cards worth the money?

I have a 8800 gtx graphics card and if i where to get another to have SLI is there really that much of a performance increase than what im getting now for the HIGH expense of 2 cards? so im just asking is it really worth it?

Is SLI with 2 8800 GTX graphics cards worth the money?
I dont think you will need that much video ram, and if you do it will be very seldom. For the cost of that card, I think you will be wasting your money. One should be plenty.

What cheap graphics cards can you recommend?

Something decent, but budget-friendly?

What cheap graphics cards can you recommend?
Nvidia 9000 series coming out later this month

well its supposed to be

its also "supposed" to be twice as fast as the leading graphics card at the moment

cant wait... budget card i would say Nvidia 8800gts gaming one

or Nvidia 8600 if your tight but i would have to say keep to the Nvidia 8800 or higher if you want top of the range
Reply:how much do you have to spend? and do you want play high end games? its all well and good spending £250 + but if you're not gonna use it then whats the point. need more details really.
Reply:hi mate

budget cards are normally sub £100 cards and got that theres a massive selction to choose from

i personally like the nvidia geforce 7 series cards such as the Inno3D GeForce 7600GS 256MB PCI-Express graphics card from http://www.misco.co.uk/applications/Sear... is a brilllliant card for its low price and it also has some good specs including a 400mhz core clock and 256mb of gddr memory running at 667mhz

theres a better model of this chip in the shape of the XFX GeForce 7600GT 256Mb XXX edition PCI-Express graphics card from http://www.misco.co.uk/applications/Sear... has a more powerful 562mhz core clock and a 800mhz effective memory speed, this is probally the best mid range nvidia gaming card

as for ati radeon cards theres also a few very good cards to choose from,i personally recommend the radeon X1950PRO 256Mb PCI-Express graphics card from http://www.misco.co.uk/applications/Sear... is a awesome card with some amazing specifications

it has a core clock of 580mhz and 256mb of gddr3 ram running at 1400mhz,however what makes this better than the others is the pixel pipelines, these are rendering units which help the card produce the 3d effects we all see in games, the geforce 7600gs and gt have 12 pixel pipelines, but the radeon X1950PRO blows them both into submission with a awesome 36 pixel pipelines

finally the other ati recommendation si the amazing Sapphire 2600XT 256Mb PCI-Experss graphics card from http://www.misco.co.uk/applications/Sear... is one of the new breed of direct x 10 graphic cards and if you have a vista enabled p.c then this is your card

and the specifications are amazing too, with a core clock of 800mhz and 256mb of gddr3 memory running at 1400mhz this makes for some awesome gaming

were the above three cards use pixel pipelines this card use the new "stream processes" which are basically graphic processing units capable of pretty well anything including vertex, shading and all kinds of rendering

this card uses a decent 120 stream processes and considering the nvidia 8800gtx uses just 8 more stream processes and costs £300 more this makes this card a excellent buy

all these cards are extremely good and very good gaming cards, and all are well below the £100 budget, however if you give me a specific type of game you prefer to play i will try to find you a ideal card

i hope this helps however any problems let me know

good luck mate !
Reply:If you can spare about $250, then the 8800GT. Its faster and cheaper than the 8800GTS. The only thing better now is the 8800 GTX until the 9xxx series comes out. Its even better than ATI's flagship X2900XT

http://www.tomshardware.com/2007/10/29/g...
Reply:Depends on your PC if its was built in the last 2 years then its should have a PCI Express x16 slot if its older like mine then you'll need a AGP x8 graphics card

PCI Express x16 Card:

The Brand New XFX GeForce 8600GT - 256MB DDR3 ( £74.82 )

AGP 8x Card:

ATI Radeon X1650 Pro - 512MB GDDR3 ( £41.70 )

What graphics cards are compatible with the x1300pro for a Dell 560s?

I am looking at a Radeon HD 2400XT and wondered if it would work

What graphics cards are compatible with the x1300pro for a Dell 560s?
Is the X1300 you have a PCI-E model, or is it the PCI model. If it is PCI-Express, you will be good to go. If not, you will need either a PCI video card or a new motherboard that supports PCI-E.

Don't even bother going through the new motherboard option, because Dell's heatsink will only fit on dell motherboards.

Can Amd compete with Nvidia in graphics cards and Intel in Cpus?

in 2006, Amd acquired Ati technologies. AMD has released Radeon 4850 and Radeon 4870 last month while Nvidia's new products are expensive. Amd will release a dual core Phenom to compete with Core 2 Duo. Phenom motherboards have a voltage problem since it cannot supply enough voltage.

Can Amd compete with Nvidia in graphics cards and Intel in Cpus?
I actually just bough parts to build an AMD system from newegg simply because they are cheaper, but I am going to use a NVIDIA graphics card simply because they seem a lot more reliable and ATI cards, and strangely ATI markets their graphics cards mainly on sex appeal somehow, which is just kindof weird. But to tell the truth, if I had enough money I would buy an intel based system.
Reply:ATi's new HD4870's are better than anything nVida has go currently even their new 280's.

AMD will probably come back on top at some point, remember the pentium 4 era, AMD dominated back then. Its always changes, and will continue to change back and forth.

Intel is going to be moving into the GPU market soon, and nVidia will be heavily tested, Intel makes 10x more money than nVidia so theres going to be a big fight.
Reply:right now ATI is beating nVidia. the only card better than the 4870 is the GTX 280 and the difference is marginal not to mention that the nVidia card is $200 MORE than the ATI. as far as chips go AMD dual core and quad cores are just as good as intels, they are cheaper and run cooler. Intel and nVidia is hype and over pricing.
Reply:No. Intel and nVidia are "together". And, they're already established as being number 1 in their fields.
Reply:no intel and Nividia are always good though Amd is cheap

Game like Half Life 2 without Graphics Cards ?

Without any graphics card support Half Life 2 is smoothly running to a medium cost intel cpu+Mother board based PC ! Graphics is not bad . Can the playing damage the PC future?

Game like Half Life 2 without Graphics Cards ?
Well, actually, it does have a graphics card. It may not be top-of-the-line, but all computers have to have some type of graphics card. If the game runs well then there should not be any damage caused to your computer. I've run some pretty crazy programs on old computers, and they didn't have any problems.
Reply:I don't think Half Life 2 has a software renderer.

And no PC nowadays comes without a graphics proccessor you probably have integrated graphics (the chip is ussually in the northbridge of the motherboard covered with a heatsink)

Half life 2 are you using DX7 mode?

It will not damage it as CPU's can't die of overuse (only by voltmodding will you fry it)
Reply:OK, first of all, if you do not have a graphics card, your monitor would have nothing to plug on into. Which means THERE IS a video card in your computer. Mostly likely it's an integrated video card.

As for damaging the PC, nope, integrated video cards are made for ordinary users who do not care about the fastest gaming performance. You can continue to use it if you're satisfied with it's performance.
Reply:Heh, no.

Your hardware is specifically made to only go to certain extents. It will never go past what it's supposed to, unless you overclock it. Thus, no possible damage.. except heat damage.. and this is unlikely.
Reply:half life. what made to run on almost any system. try it.
Reply:Huh?? Damage?

Can't be! At most just over-heat your processor!

Is there a major difference between these Nvidia Graphics cards?

I have the choice of either:

- nVidia GeForce 9600GT 1024MB £79

or

- nVidia GeForce 9800GTX 512MB £189

Is it really worth over £100 more for it?

What signifficant changes could i find?

For playing games like Call of Duty 4,Crysis,Half life 2 etc

Is there a major difference between these Nvidia Graphics cards?
hi james

in a nutshell, speed and memory, the geforce 9600gt is by no means a slow card but as with any geforce series the gtx prefix after the name allways signifies power, and a better card

taking a more indepth look the 9600gt has a 650mhz core clock compared with the 9800gtx core clock speed of 675mhz,this isnt much of a increase however every mhz counts when running todays high end games

then the memory speeds are also slightly different, for example the 9600gt has a 900mhz(1800mhz ddr effective) compared to the 1100mhz(2200mhz ddr effective) in the 9800gtx

these are the main specs you look for when considering buying a new graphic card, however another important specification is the memory bandwidth and memory bus interface

and allthough both cards have 256bit memory interfaces the better memory clock in the 9800gtx gives it a much better 70.4gb/sec memory bandwidth compared to the 57.6gb/sec in the 9600gt

and allthough the 9600gt,s bandwidth is nothing to be sneezed at,if your after a card thats gonna give you that bit more then the extra bandwidth is a must

as for games, well the difference in these cards would be increased frame rates and higher detail in the 9800gtx,however i have found the latest games like call of duty 4 and crysis extremely playable when set to medium

direct x 10 has made games played on low to medium look like games played on high detail in direct x 9

half life 2 is especially good when played on these new breed of cards, also assassins creed and bioshock are also worth checking out

finally is the extra £100 worth paying?...well i think so..while the 9600gt becomes swamped by the newer and more demanding games the 9800gtx will still hold its own and will still be the card of choice in at least another 2 years

any problems let me know

good luck james !
Reply:1024MB of video memory would practically NEVER come into use. You'd have to be running some ridiculous resolution before the graphics card utilized much of that, and at that point the 9600 would lack the power to run it well anyway. The 9800GTX is by far the better card, no matter what you do with them. Video memory can be a little deceiving--it only really matters if all else is equal, and in this situation it is not.
Reply:You can check relative performance here;

http://service.futuremark.com/hardware/g...

but I wouldn't pay an extra £110 and lose 512Mb personally!

Is there a website that has free upgrades for graphics cards?

my computer's graphics card is not up to date enough to play Final Fantasy XI i need a website that has free upgrades

Check what graphics card you have and type in the company on google, they should have drivers on their site you can download and update it.
Reply:You have to find the manufacturer of your graphics card by going to device manager. Almost all manufacturers give graphics card updates....
Reply:do you mean like a step up program? getting an upgraded graphics card?

or you mean like an update for drivers/firmware?

for the first one. i'm almost sure that you need to buy a new graphics card.

but if it's just drivers/firmware, then you can just download it from nvidia/ati or manuf's website

Is it possible to connect 4 monitors to a PC using dual Graphics cards (SLI or Crossfire)?

I do allot of graphics and web development. I currently have a dual vga card that allows me to use my motherboard monitor as a 3rd monitor. The system is great with 3 20 inch LCDs hooked up. I need to upgrade my PC for better performance. If I get two cards with dual outputs, will that allow me to connect 3 or 4 monitors right to the cards, each extending my desktop?

Is it possible to connect 4 monitors to a PC using dual Graphics cards (SLI or Crossfire)?
Yes, you can. If you disable multi-gpu rendering (SLI) through the software while running a pair of NVidia graphics cards (with the hardware SLI bridge), you should be able to run 4 outputs (monitors or TVs).

Not sure about ATI cards.
Reply:no dual means 2 so it's 2

u will need anthor card for 4
Reply:no, but you can purchase a quad monitor output.

Graphics Cards Compatible With AGP 1.0 That Can Run Call of Duty 4?

I recently purchased Call of Duty 4 for PC, and I can't find any graphics cards that are compatible with an AGP 1.0 slot, I don't mind running CoD4 even in minimum graphics, just as long as I can play it, is there any graphics cards compatible with an AGP 1.0 slot that can run CoD4?

Graphics Cards Compatible With AGP 1.0 That Can Run Call of Duty 4?
I have a 7600gt that can easily run cod4 maxed out settings. I have the pciE version but I believe they make it in agp too. Some other good agp cards are6600 6800 7800, 7900, X1650 X1950 etc. Check them out on places like amazon ebay www.tigerdirect.com

What are the recommended 256MB graphics cards to run battlefield 2?

i want to run the game at a decent speed.

What are the recommended 256MB graphics cards to run battlefield 2?
I would go with an EVGA GEFORCE 8800. If you can't afford it, I would go with a lesser EVGA Nvidia card. Checkout newegg.com for the best deal. If you are spending less than $150, you won't be happy.
Reply:The best answer to this is their listed requirements. Obviously going higher then required will give better performance. The requirements are listed below the description of the game.

What graphics cards would work for a Dell?

All the ones I've tried don't fit the motherboard. I know nVidia and AFI are supposed to be good. But I know nothing about these things.

What graphics cards would work for a Dell?
is it a Dell laptop?
Reply:You have to find the name and model of your motherboard EX. ASUS 1300 and find a video card that will work specifically for that motherboard. Another way to tell is if your dell machine supports certain types of graphics like agp and integrated or fx. find your technical specs and then go shop and see if it is compatible with your motherboard most likely any new card will work unless it is a high end video card developed for dual core computers.
Reply:Most brands of video cards come in different configurations. If your motherboard has a PCI port, then you should ask for a PCI video card. If your motherboard has a special port or AGP (accelerated graphics port), you should read in the manual (or ask Dell for the specs) what kind of accelerated graphics does your Motherboard supports ( they come in multiples of 4 ).
Reply:Depends on the motherboard. Is it AGP, PCI, or PCI express?
Reply:Dell usually makes pathetic computers with no graphic card upgrade capabilities except for PCI. There are still a few PCI video cards left around, but they will probably be totally obsolete in the not to distant future.

Go to Newegg.com to search for video cards with the PCI interface if that is all that you unfortunately have.

Remember to disable any integrated video in the Bios if you add a graphics card to it.

Can you get graphics cards that work in ordinary pci slots ?

you can but its old technology now. make sure the card is pci and not pci express tho.

here's 2 anyway mate.

Can you get graphics cards that work in ordinary pci slots ?
Hi. I asked the same question about 2 months ago. Despite my PC not being old, I found that all I had was a PCI slot for graphics cards. Try the link below for what probably is one of the most powerful PCI cards left available (the GeForce 6200). And for £40. It plays Doom 3 on high quality without any problems at all. It ain't an ultra hi-tech cutting edge gaming card, but it takes the heat off the CPU when doing anything graphical.

Reply:Yes, try this http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductLis...
Reply:You can, but you are probably better off getting a cheap AGP motherboard.

Are ATI Radeon graphics cards any good compared to nVIDIA cards?

I've never used an ATI Radeon card. Are they as good as nVIDIA cards? If I buy 2 cards of similar price from both brands, will they perform similar? Or is nVIDIA more solid compared to ATI?

Are ATI Radeon graphics cards any good compared to nVIDIA cards?
I use both Radeon and Nvidia card depending on whichever is cheaper at the moment.

If you were to compare say the base model 8400GS and HD2400Pro they both sell for about $40. The Nvidia 8400GS is a little faster, but the HD2400Pro uses less energy and has better output to HDTV....pretty much works out in the end.

If you were to look at the ATI 3850 vs the Nvidia 8800GS (both about $150 cards) again they will perform somewhat similar in gaming with the ATI being a little better choice for TV output because it is a quieter card.

However, ATI cards can have some more obvious driver issues. I've always found I have to work harder with the drivers to get the ATI ones to work properly. The Nvidia drivers tend to be a little more stable.
Reply:In my experience Nvidia performs better but ATI doesn't burnout as easily. Especially if you're into OCing. I only use ATI now because of reliability.
Reply:Yes, they can be as good a NVidia's cards. They are competing with each other for a reason.

Yes, similarly prices video card usually perform the same.

As for being solid, yes, both of them are solid, and they also break when you smash them to the floor/wall hard enough.

Joking aside, they last the same due to being made on similar process (Like Silicon and metal.)

However, ATI video cards should be slightly more cheaper than equivalent NVidia cards.
Reply:well i know nvidia is a good card, i hear it depends on different games, radeon will be better for some nvidia for others, id go with nvidia as i know its a good one and has always done me well

The nvidia graphics cards get better as the numbers go up right?

My current computer has a nvidia Geforce Go5700 and I'm looking at new computers with either the Geforce 8300gs or 7300LE. Those are both upgrades right?

The nvidia graphics cards get better as the numbers go up right?
Actually the correct answer is no. You can only compare within a series 5xxx, 6xxx, 7xxx, 8xxx.

http://www.tomshardware.com/2005/07/05/v...

http://www23.tomshardware.com/graphics.h...

The 5700 is a little slower then the 7300 and x1300, but not much. The 8500 Is a little better, but worse then a 6600. The 8400 worse then the 5700, and of course, the 8300 even worse then that, more like the on-board video cards today.

So they would be DOWNgrades, NOT upgrades.
Reply:Yes, as the numbers go up they are better, with some exceptions(a lower number with higher memory might perform better than a slightly higher number with very little memory)

The 7300LE uses Directx9, a program that is part of graphic rendering.

The 8300gs uses directx10, which is the new program, and will make games look better for you.

The upside to lower numbers is that they tend to be more reliable, as the software for any card startign with an 8 is still getting some of the bugs worked out(though is decent enough by now)
Reply:This is what I use to make all of my cards. Simple, free, and quick.

http://tinyurl.com/3c9zb5

Good luck.
Reply:Yep, you'll see a considerable gaming and video performance increase with any one of these video cards.

Also, the same thing goes for the new video cards, the Geforce 8300 gs is a lot better than the 7300 LE.
Reply:yup exactly... and y is ur avtar is angry?

Whats the difference between video cards that are used for prerendering graphics compared to real-time?

I noticed that professional video cards like nvidias quadro fx cost a lot more than even the newest GeForce 8 series cards, and was wondering what the difference is between video cards used for prerendered graphics and real-time rendering cards like the new GeForce 8 series? I mean, if I bought an nvidia quadro fx, would I be able to use it to play games, or just for 3d animation?

Whats the difference between video cards that are used for prerendering graphics compared to real-time?
The Quadros and the ATI FireGLs are pro level OpenGL accelerators that basically accelerate OpenGL functions through GL drivers.

Normal PC "game" video cards like ATI X1 and X2 and GeForce 7 / 8 series accelerate mainly polygons, transform (rotation and such), lighting, and shading. That's actually VERY LITTLE of OpenGL's capabilities. (You ever tried looking through the OpenGL standard's book?) Remember, games want to boast max amount of triangles, texture elements (texels), and so on per second, where as the Pro cards actually measure performance by some other ways.

So basically we're comparing apples and oranges. Think of our GeForce 8 as... say, a Top Fuel Dragster. And the Quadros as... A Champ Car or a Formula 1 car, a different type of machine altogether. Both are extremely fast... within their design environments. :)
Reply:Pre-rendering, that means you can take whatever time it takes to render a scence. Those animated movies like Finding Nemo and Cars, each frame (or picture) takes hours to days to render. It doesn't matter here, because once they render the frames all, only then they will put it together to form a movie.

In real time rendering, you have to render all the frames at a certain time to maintain playability. Like if you wants your game to run at 30 fps (frames per second), then your graphic card have to render them at 30 frames in 1 second, it cannot take hours just to render one frames.

Since in game you're doing real time rendering, you would want to get a graphic card that does real time rendering, the architecture are all design to do real time rendering, as oppose to prerendering GPUs.

I think u might be able to play games on a Quardo FX, i don't know. But even if your could, the performance would be disasterous you'd be kicking yourself.

They need to be two IDENTICAL cards.. like 8800gt and 8800gt.. etc. If you had two different cards then it would be buggy or not work at all.
Reply:it could work, but i wouldn't try it. an 8200 isn't that great of a card but here are two that are and are cheap. just try one of these geforces. all you would ever need is one card unless you're doing some hardcore gaming.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as... http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as...
Reply:not in SLI, but you could use the 8200 for more graphic intensive stuff like movies or low end games. You can set them separate for mutli-monitor use. Other than that, you can't use 2 different cards if you want SLI
Reply:No. in order to run cards in a sli configuration, they have to be the same, and both cards need to be sli supported.
Reply:Yes but eventually the greater one will cancel/try to cancel the other one out. But for a while it will work.
Reply:If installed at the same time. They could drive 2 seperate monitors yes. If thats what your asking.
Reply:No, the 8200 would oust the 6600.

What is the difference between agp and pci graphics cards? What are the advantages and dissadvantages of each?

The main difference is the bus speed at which the cards work for processing and displaying graphics. Obviously if you are a serious gamer then an AGP card is more suitable as it operates at a much faster speed. PCI graphics cards are somewhat obsolete now.

What is the difference between agp and pci graphics cards? What are the advantages and dissadvantages of each?
AGP graphics cards use an AGP slot on your motherboard. This type of slot is optimized for data throughput. Many modern graphics cards shift huge amounts of data to the graphics cards, agp slots can take more data and so are generally faster.
Reply:PCI graphics cards are very old technology at this stage. AGP is way faster and has greater capabilities.
Reply:types of motherboards

pci express is newer.

cards are much of much.
Reply:1st I wanna know Which PCI u mean? Old 1 or New PCI Express?

Old 1 is PCI vga It can fix in any PCI slot. Then AGP Accelarated graphic port in 2x 4x 8x in 1.5 %26amp; 3 Volts. Finally now wth above Intel 865 chipset PCI Xpress in 16x Latest technology. U can find mor in board manufactures websites.

How do you upgrade graphics cards and RAM in a laptop/notebook computer?

People who have laptops have to accept they cant be upgraded apart from the Ram (matchbox size cover on the bottom of the laptop, or some have the ram under the keyboard), that it for upgrading a laptop. Hence laptop lose value faster than desktops because your stuck with the same spec.

How do you upgrade graphics cards and RAM in a laptop/notebook computer?
We undertake laptop repairs and customers very commonly ask us to upgrade the video ram and on 95% of occasions it cannot be done as the graphics chip is part of the motherboard. On 5% of occasions the graphics chip is on a separate card that can be changed but the price is generally very high (£100 - £200). Ram is usually easy to upgrade via a trapdoor underneath the laptop or occasionally by removing the keyboard http://www.trilogicuk.co.uk
Reply:you can upgrade the ram easily and relatively cheap. but to upgrade the video you need one of the new high dollar usb 2.0 external video adapters and a high quality desktop monitor. figuire 500 to 1000 dollars unless you really go max on the video card which can push your costs to 1500 dollars or more. since once you do this your laptop is no longer mobile why not spend that 1500 and get a state of the are gaming desktop.
Reply:You can put more ram in your self. But the rest of it is to do with the mother board and you have to give it your manufactures to up grade. I would just get a new one. Because the graphics for example have to be on board and tie in with the proccesing speed of your proccesor.
Reply:Most laptop (99%) have a built in graphics card, this can not be changed. Ram on any sensible machine is fitted in a slot underneath, and there is a cover you can remove to change it. There are some which need a major strip down to change it.
Reply:Graphics cards? You can't. It's a chip on the board that you can't change.

Or I can have a DDR RAM %26amp; Graphics Card having DDR 2 on my motherboard?

Is it necessary to have a DDR 2 RAM if I want to have a Graphics Cards having DDR 2 RAM?
RAM on a graphics card is completely separate from RAM on your system board so it doesn't matter if they match.
Reply:nope. You don't need to have DDR 2 if your video card uses it. My computer uses DDR 2 while both video cards has GDDR3.
Reply:the ram on the graphics card doesnt have anything to do with the ram on the mobo
Reply:two different types
Reply:Your motherboard determines what DDR you can use. Some support a range of DDR, older ones only support DDR etc. Yet even older motherboards only support SDRAM in both the system RAM and graphics RAM.
Reply:The Ram on your motherboard independently from the RAM on the Graphics card. Yes you can have both.

What are some good graphics cards?

What are some good Nvidia and Ati Graphics cards.

I don't care what price and can u please name at least 3 and the price of em?

What are some good graphics cards?
This time I'm going to give a list of great budget cards. Though these cards lack DX10, they can all play modern games at high settings.

1) ATI X1950 Pro (used for $50 to $90)%26lt;--not compatible with some chipsets

2) 7800 GTX (used for $50 to $90)

3) 7950 GT (used for $50 to $90)

Further, the above cards are far better than the 8600, 8500, and 8400 cards which still cost over $100.

When DX10 cards came out the price of the best DX9 cards dropped dramatically. This is very good for the budget gamer. And these cards can play ALL of the modern games on high settings.

You have to understand that DX10 is basically a scam. It offers few true advantages and slows down frame rates. Also, many games that claim to use DX10 graphics, like Crysis, were actually designed completely in DX9.

What does Discrete Memory mean in respect to graphics cards?

I'm looking for a laptop that has dedicated video memory. I keep seeing discrete - is that the same thing?

What does Discrete Memory mean in respect to graphics cards?
Discrete memory means the video memory is not used from the computer's memory (RAM). It will come with its own memory.

Graphics card with discrete memory will perform better.

If you buy a laptop say 512MB RAM with shared graphics memory of 128 MB, this effectively means that the available RAM for other process will be 396 MB.
Reply:if you are looking for those types of vedio memory, then please get some big 512 or more of the vedeo ram, other wise it will create problems.

Does a 20w power difference matter in graphics cards?

I want this one card the uses 450w and I have a 430w psu Sucky i know

will it work?

Does a 20w power difference matter in graphics cards?
If it causes a 20 watt shortage, then yes. There are a few wattage calculators online that you can use to enter in your systems specs and see what your requirements are. If that says you are under 430...then you are good. It also doesn't hurt to have more than you need. If you need 430 and you are using a 430w supply, not only are you maxing out your suply and making it work hard, but you are then subject to power fluctuations that could potentially reduce the wattage and cause issues. If you are using 430 and have a 450 or a 500w PS, then you are not taxing your power supply as much and ther is some wiggle roomon the output. it also gives you some room for expansion.
Reply:if your graphics card uses 20W more then your power supply can give, where will the cpu get the power it needs? so, no.
Reply:Well i would actually go with the higher watt PSU because if u don't you could over heat your computer very fast...So try going to buy a higher watt and then your computer can run smoother and you don't need to worry

Are there alternative graphics cards for my laptop?

I love my Intel card. The thing is, there are too many games that aren't compatible with the Intel chipset - 2 so far that I have experienced for myself; Age of Empires 3 and Marc Ecko's Getting Up. Neither of them work due to the card.

I want a Radeon card - they are compatible with most anything. The question is, where can I get it and how much will it cost?

Are there alternative graphics cards for my laptop?
Intel's integrated graphics solution wasn't intended to be a gaming solution. It doesn't even support hardware T%26amp;L.

And the bad news for you is that, you have a laptop. You cannot upgrade the graphics "cards" on your laptop because the graphics chip is soldered into the motherboard and since you don't have the expansion capability to put in an PCIe card or AGP card, you're pretty much stuck with what you have.

The only practical way of getting a new video card is to buy another laptop. There's no way of getting around that.
Reply:Chances are where talking about a laptop here!

Its not a graphics cardyou want here - just think how will that fit into your laptop! If you adventours (or dumb) you could look at chaning the motherboard to update the graphics.
Reply:first of all. I don't think you really love intel cards, they arent very good.

second, laptop graphics cards are very expensive because of the size.

third, you would have to viod your warentee to replace it.

If you do have a warentee you could talk to that company and ask them, or find a laptop service centre near you

BUT... that is designed for gamers. If you really want a powerful card for things involving much more Business/Science-like ventures, check out the PNY NVidia Quadro FX5500. This card is MASSIVE! Someone even said that they got about 840 fps on Battlefield 2 with it.

Of course, the price of this thing is enormous as well, but hey; you did ask for the best one out there. Even though it isn't very practical for gamers really, it's the best out there. =P It's listed on NewEgg.com for $2,399.99; a price not very many people can afford. =P

well... not to be mean, but most all video cards (no matter how old) the good ones are going to be near 100 dollars.

you don't need anything more than that anyways because i'm guessing the pc is probably pretty old, like everyone's now days.

you have to research your specific pc model and everything to find out what graphics cards it can even take.

NOT ALL computers can take the same graphics cards. you may even end up hurting your computer if you don't look into this.

Whats the difference between ati and nvidia graphics cards? - Are these just brand names? (I'm upgrading mine)

Yes, they're just different brand names. There are some things to consider though. First of all is the price. nVidia is growing in popularity again so the ATi cards tend to be a bit cheaper. They do have a reputation for driver compatibility issues though. Now as far as performance goes, it's going to depend on the job you're trying to do. If you just want to game then either card will do. However, nVidia is buying up rights to video games so the game manufacturers sometimes build special content into their games and only an nVidia card can access those parts. I'm not a big supporter of that so I still buy ATi cards. Download a program called AIDA32 and run it. See what your chipset is and google that. You should be able to find the brand of card that will best work with that chipset.

the difference is one goes just a tad bit faster nvidia

AMD now own ATI.
Reply:I would consider the ATI is better than the other one because i have that one
Reply:Yes they are just brand names, but the cards themselves are really different. Ati focuses on more powerful cards while nvidia focuses on performance and compatibility. Dont get me wrong, nvidia and ati both have equally powerful cards, yet the choice on which to get depends on the type of computer you have and how much you are willing to spend.
Reply:They both make good graphics processors. They both have for entry level, mainstream and high end cards. It is just that high end ATI graphics cards tend to consume more power.

PCI with 4 graphics cards each running one desktop per monitor?

Is it possible to run 4 older style PCI cards and each to output a seperate monitor? My board will hold 4 PCI cards, I just need to know if this is possible and which software would be needed to run on the main desktop to output to all 4?

Thanks.

PCI with 4 graphics cards each running one desktop per monitor?
Certainly, as of Windows 98 SE, full support of multiple monitors (up to 9) was available provided that you met the following requirements.

1. All cards are PCI or greater, including the intergrated graphics adapter (if any).

2. You are running Windows 98 SE or later.

Simple enough? Not really, next you gotta tell Windows which monitor is where (goto where you change the res. and drag each monitor until you have them arranged as they are on your desk. This way, when you move your mouse toward another monitor, the mouse pointer goes to the direction of the monitor targeted rather then just popping up on whichever monitor is set for the target.) Did that make sense?

You have to also tell Windows (in the same location) to EXTEND YOUR DESKTOP... This means use more than one graphics adapter.

It's a lot of fun but we should point out that there is always one default monitor (for some games or ful lscreen video playback. So select your #1 card and monitor accordingly.

Hope this helps. (For more info, read the Windows 98 SE Manual, they have good basic instructions and help you to understand the technology so you can do a better job of configuring the system.

Which PCs and graphics cards will work with my Sony HDTV?

I have a Sony Bravia KDL-40V2500. It's a 40" 1080p LCD TV. I have about $1200 to spend on a PC and graphics card to hook up to it. I was wanting to find a PC and graphics card that would be compatible with my TV. I was hoping to find a graphics card that would output in 1080p resolution through either DVI or HDMI. I play alot of World of Warcraft and want a graphics card that will make the graphics look good, i'll also be watching alot of movies so i'd like them to look good on my TV as well. What are my options with $1200 to spend on the PC and graphics card I need? Im not wanting a monitor along with the PC so that would take a chunk off the price. I hear I need a PCI express slot in my PC for the high end graphics cards too? Im wanting 2 gig of ram, decent hard drive space, and a dual core processor. What are my options? How do I find my expansion slot time for graphics cards on my computer?

I assume you are looking for the expansion slot type.

You need to see what slot is included on the motherboard.

There are three types-PCI, AGP and PCI Express.

All computers have PCI slots, so you can use it if you want. The other two slots are for faster and more expensive cards.

Go to your computer manufacturer's web site and find your model. Then check the motherboard specifications.

The specs will tell you what expansion slot is on the motherboard.

Do graphics cards degrade in performance over time?

I have a 7600Go on my laptop and I was wondering if graphics cards lose their performance or is the performance the same over say, a four year period. Also, when I play games, should I put the power level at maximum? I leave it at "balanced" (in the middle) and when I set it at max the temperature goes up by 8 celsius.

Do graphics cards degrade in performance over time?
No the performance doesn't degrade if nothing is wrong with you video card. It will always work the same. If you put the power to 100% I think it will be faster but will use more battery power too. I had Dell 9100 Inspiron with 9800 Ati Mobility and it would cut the video card performance in half when not plugged in power plug to save power. Once you utilize it 100% the battery power time decreased. Don't worry about this if it's connected to power outlet.
Reply:All computer hardware perform the same in all times it is the software what slows them down when you install and remove softwares a lot your computer will slow down. And also among time you could feel you graphic card becoming slower but in reality the games are becoming harder to compute and other new faster graphic cards make it lock slower.
Reply:The hardware itself won't lose it's performance due to time. It will always be the software that require more hardware performance later on. That video card you got there is very nice, so you wont have to worry about being outdated.

And it's always better to leave the setting on medium. Unless you really care about the graphic of the game you are playing.

Is there any difference in performance between these graphics cards?

Sapphire, ati and msi even if they are all radeon 2600 xt?

Is there any difference in performance between these graphics cards?
actually ati is the graphics chip manufacturer

sapphire and msi make cards using ati chips
Reply:Theoretically yes there is a difference. What generally happens is ATI/Nvidia will create a basic GPU (Graphics Processor Unit) that is where the 2600 code comes from thats the name of the processor.

Then what happens is the companies Sapphire and MSI will tweak or change the basic structure to make the card operate cooler, faster or better. There isnt a huge difference in the changes just think of these companies as professional overclockers. The ATI version is more like the stock version of the card where the MSI and Sapphire version are tweaked versions of the card.

What i generally do is google the card names and find some 3dMark tests for each card to see the difference. As i said this isnt huge but if your hellbent on getting value for money... thats your answer!

Hope this helps
Reply:Just different manufactures. (is there any difference with a Toyota or a Ford they are both a car). Some have better components. But usually there isn't much difference.

Installing dual video cards on a motherboard without integrated onboard graphics?

OK, I have 2 NVIDIA GeForce FX video cards I would like the run on an Asus A7N8X-E Deluxe motherboard. It has no onboard graphics. One graphic card is an Apollo Graphics AGP 8x FX5200 with 128MB ram. The other is a PNY PCI FX5500 with also 128MB ram. I have the drivers for both video cards (Same forceware driver) Now here is my dillema. Will the cards produce an image on the monitor when I first turn the computer on? Before I can install the drivers, I need to configure BIOS, install an operating system, and set up the OS. So, will the cards run w/o drivers for those 2 (maybe less) hours?

Installing dual video cards on a motherboard without integrated onboard graphics?
The BIOS and operating system should default to using the AGP card with a generic driver, then you can install drivers and set up the system to use two displays.
Reply:Doing so is pretty much useless because the computer has to have one main primary monitor, and will not allocate both an AGP and a PCI graphics card. Usually if you power on, the computer will automatically choose AGP, which stands for Accelerated Graphics Port, and is faster then PCI, but slowe than PCI-Express, my advice to you is to buy a new motherboard, but other than that, you're pretty much stuck between a rock and a hard place.
Reply:Yes, In my experience of building computers most of the time graphics cards will give you a basic output without a driver.

Does anyone know of any good pci expressx16 graphics cards for a 300w power supply?
I am not sure but the 7 series of NVidia graphics card take very little power compared to the others. Make sure though as the 300 watts is pretty low for this kind of stuff.

Why is it that graphics cards these days have digital artwork of asian women painted on them?

It's hard to see how this would improve their performance, after all…

Why is it that graphics cards these days have digital artwork of asian women painted on them?
To appeal users? Better artworks lure more gamers? Gamers tend to me male?
Reply:it definitely beats having asian men painted on them...right?
Reply:many cards today have pictures and words on them for decoration I guess.

maybe advertising, if you have a case window.

my video card says "BFG" on it, pretty boring
Reply:They place built up men/women to make it look like the graphics card has the same amount of power.
Reply:many people at my office also ask the same question

I think its only a cover design, it just the way to show you that the card will be able to produce such image in the cover

Do high end graphics cards require specific CPUs in the computers they are used in?

I have a Dell XPS400. Its a gamer desktop but I want to upgrade from Nvidia 6800 to Nvidia 8800. Is there a minimum requirement for the CPU? or do I just change it and thats it?

Do high end graphics cards require specific CPUs in the computers they are used in?
Just do it this way:

Choose the graphics cards say Nvidia 8800 go to

www.nvidia.com, read its minimum hardware requirements.

See if it matches yours in terms of CPU requirements, I think Dell XPS400 has

(NEW Intel® Pentium® D Processor up to 840 (3.2GHz, 2MB L2 cache, 800MHz FSB) with Dual Core Technology.)

So it should be good enough.

Dell XPS400 has

Output Wattage: 375 WattsAlso see the power requirements of the graphics card

might just have to upgrade this atleast by the difference of power requirement of 6800 and 8800, but on the higher side.

Interesting thing -%26gt;

Dell XPS600 uses 6800 + 7800 in parallel using above technology but its supply is about 650W.

Check this out -%26gt; its really nice two graphics card in parallel

http://www.dell.com/content/topics/topic...

NVIDIA® SLI™ technology is a revolutionary platform innovation that allows you to intelligently scale graphics performance by combining multiple NVIDIA graphics solutions in a single system with an NVIDIA nForce® SLI media and communications processor (MCP).

Bottom Line for graphics cards specifically -%26gt; With my personal experience in the industry, I personally recommend buying the card from the PC manufacturer by letting them know your model because there had been problems of hardware compatibility before. In this case you could always blame on the upgrader rather than if you buy it from open market. Just keep yourself slightly upgraded before buying to stop anyone making a fool of our ignorance.

Good day, bye
Reply:They do have minimum requirements but they are too low in this case you have nothing to worry about it, just make sure you buy the one that uses the same port (PCIE or AGP)
Reply:Its a bigger PSU (powersupply) You'll be needing. Thats like, 425 watts and dell/hp mostly have 300 watts, which is way to low.
Reply:Actually...as opposed to what everyone else is saying, YES the CPU is important.

Take for example a P4...that thing is going to really bottleneck a card like the 8800 as it just can't get the GPU the data it needs fast enough.
Reply:Your CPU should be fine for the nVidea8800GT, what you should be more concerned with is if you have the right power supply. The 8800GT requires a minimum of 450 or so watt power supply with a certain amount available to the 12v rail. I'm not sure of all the specific specs, but I know you need a strong PSU to run that card.

Where can I get a set of graphics for playing cards?

I want to write a card-playing software program, and need a set of graphics. I don't want photo images. Even better if you know where I can get non-English packs like for Spanish and French.

What are piplines in graphics cards?

is better to have more pipelines and whats the best graphics card to run with MCE (media center) and gaming?

thanks!

What are piplines in graphics cards?
Yes the more pipelines the better the graphics card .... i can't suggest any graphics card to you because you did not tell use what slot u have , u may have a PCI , PCI-E OR AGP SLOT .... ..

Good luck
Reply:Yes,more is better and 20 is minumum for decent graphics.Nvidia has a card with 24.Hope that helped.
Reply:they are small pipes that run throughout the GPU to distribute the heat and lessen the chance of overheating.

Which store would sell the best one and how much would it cost? Not on eBay, in the store.

Which one of the following graphics cards is the best and how much does it cost?
Well, its basically a toss up between ATI and nVidia, depends on personal preference, I guess. I have an nVidia 6800 GT that works great, I got it on ebay for 50 bucks, and it was @ 300 retail when new. Basically, the higher the number, the newer model of card, nVidia has the 4,5,6,7, and now 8 series of card (geforce 4, 5700, 6800, 7600, 8800 etc.), usually the higher the number the better the card. You want to look for a few things when buying a card. Make sure it has DirectX 9.0c capability, Pixel Shader 2.0, and at least 256 MB of ram. You will not be displeased with those specs. After that, with the speed of the card, it basically comes down to how much you want to pay. Hope this helps!!
Reply:I have used Ati for a long time and alwayz had an issue come up recently i bought a Nvidia 6800 XT and its amazing and it cost me 130 for 256mb
Reply:Go to www.newegg.com and look at cost.

What Graphics Cards Can I Put In This Computer?

I am looking to buy a HP Desktop computer from my local Circuitcity. But it comes with a shared graphics that doesn't work well with Flight Sim X, so I have found. Will this card go in this computer?

nVidia by EVGA e-GeForce 8400 GS 256MB DDR2 Video Card.

nVidia by EVGA GeForce 7200 GS 128MB DDR2 Video Card.

What Graphics Cards Can I Put In This Computer?
For a Slimline PC you'll need a half height card. Any half height card will work if it's PCI Express (I believe thats whats in the Slimlines).

Please tell me which graphics cards are best suited to Intel 845GVSR motherboard?

I have decided to use this motherboard %26amp; not to buy any motherboard, so please tell me which graphics cards is/are suited to Intel 845GVSR motherboard %26amp; I really want to play racing games(EA) such as: Need for Speed: Carbon %26amp; Need for Speed: Most Wanted. So, please please tell me the name of Graphics Card. I would be pleased %26amp; Thank full to you because you made my Dreams come true!!!!!!!!!!!!

Please tell me which graphics cards are best suited to Intel 845GVSR motherboard?
upgrade your directx 9c. i think all games working......
Reply:You should mention your budget!

your motherboard uses an AGP card which is obsolete now anyways for upto Rs. 5000 = 6200 256MB

rs. 5000 - 10000 = 6600GT(rs. 7500 highly recommended)

Geforce 7800GS Rs.10000+(best in AGP)

PS: AGP cards are older and slower than there PCI-express counterparts but they are much more expensive than PCI-express cards!!
Reply:Your MOtherboard doesnt have an AGP or PCI-E slot.So u wont have a lot of choice nor will u get DX10 Graphics cards. But wait there is Hope. The two cards which I have mentioned below ATIX1300 and Nvidia 6200 have PCI versions too ensuring that u can play any game which is available as of now in the market as both of them are Shadermodel3(ie DX9.0c) compliant. And the price is roughly around RS4k.So check em out and ya u can probably upcoming game only till 2009 cuz after that DX9 will be Obsolete.Hope this helped

Can i combine two different graphics cards in the same system?

i have just purchased a BFG 8800 GTS graphics card, and i have now found a realy cheap BFG 8800 GTX OC2- can i join them in the same system or do they have to be the same card

Can i combine two different graphics cards in the same system?
Cards have to be the same archictecture in order to work in SLI, and generally from the same manufacturer as well. I believe you can get a 8800 GTS 512 to work with a 8800 GT 512, but it is rather inefficient unless they're identical.

The 8800 GTX however is an entirely different GPU, and won't work with a GTS at all.
Reply:no, they have to be the same model/chipset. You would need 2 identical gts models (keep in mind that there are officially 2 different reference builds...1 uses the g80 chipset and the newer one uses g92) The gts models with 640mb ram are using the g80 chipset and can be paired together...while the g92 models come with 512mb and can be paired. For the gtx, you would need 2 gtx models since they are all on the g80 chipset.
Reply:You can only join 2 similar card in a SLI configuration for NVIDIA or Crossfire for ATI

Prerequisite the 2 Cards must be identical

the mobo shld have 2 PCI-E slots SLI capable
Reply:sure if you dont want either to work
Reply:no
Reply:One graphics card per computer.

Will either of these graphics cards work for hellgate london.?

im looking to get a new computer and i want it to be able to play this game i no all the other aspects work but im not good at telling graphics cards. The first has an nVIDIA GeForce 6150 SE. The other is ATI RADEON HD 2400. So will either work well and also how does this game play on its minimum, i want to no so i can install it on my other computer.

Will either of these graphics cards work for hellgate london.?
Get the Radeon, its a much better value. I wouldn't waste money on Hellgate though, it is a pretty cappy game.
Reply:I'm not sure about your specific cards, but go to the manufacturers sites and see if they are DX10 compliant cards. Your new computer will also need at least 2gb of ram for the game to play well. The game isn't all that bad; it kinda reminds me of the first Diablo with the random tilesets.

What is the difference between these 2 Graphics Cards: 2400Pro (128Mb) DDR2 and HD2600XT 512Mb DDR3?

I want to upgrade from a 2400Pro 128Mb to a HD2600XT 512Mb.

Is it worth doing for £55.00?

What is the difference between these 2 Graphics Cards: 2400Pro (128Mb) DDR2 and HD2600XT 512Mb DDR3?
It is well worth it mate. the amount of Memory 512 or 128 will improve fps and benchmarks.

What is the difference in these two graphics cards?

what is the between geforce and the xfx cards? i saw some of the xfx were like 80 bucks. but the geforce were 200+.

What is the difference in these two graphics cards?
There are three major video card chip manufacturers:

NVIDIA

ATI (owned by AMD)

Intel

The Intel chips are the weakest and are only available as "on-board" solutions for laptop/notebook computers and lower end motherboards, so lets forget about them.

That leaves NVIDIA and ATI, and their video cards series.

NVIDIA has the GeForce series for gamers and the Quadro series for business applications (CAD/CAM, etc)

ATI has the Radeon series for gamers and the Fire series for business applications.

Each major chip manufacturer has multiple video card manufacturers that use their chips, such as XFX, Asus, BFG, Sapphire, eVGA, MSI, and many others.

So, to answer your question, you can't really compare XFX and NVIDIA. NVIDIA makes the chips that XFX uses to make the video cards.

So, how do we explain the different pricing on the video cards?

Both ATI and NVIDIA make several different "series" of chips to cover different markets (NVIDIA makes the FX, 6, 7, 8 series and ATI makes multiple different series as well).

Confused yet? Wondering what to buy?

There are a lot of different things to consider when purchasing a video card:

What kind of video card slot does your motherboard support (PCI, AGO or PCI Express)? If you don't know, tell us the make and model of your computer

What version of Microsoft DirectX support do you need (DX9 and DX10 are current, DX10 is Windows VISTA only)?

What games do you want to play?

What is the maximum resolution of your monitor?

What is your budget?

Let us know the answers to the above questions and we can make a recommendation for what might suit your needs.

Here's a good place to start looking for what is available:

Reply:The problem with Nvidia is that different companies manufacture their products, like XFX, EVGA, sapphire for example. XFX is just a company that produces Nividia cards.
Reply:geforce are just really good, and allow you to do more. I've never even heard of xfx. Either get a Radeon on a Geforce for the best experience.
Reply:xfx is gforce too same company, gforce is a faster video card and it also depends on the memory u have on the card

Will all graphics cards work on my computer?

Reply:I have the same Dell Dimension 3100,both geforce 5500 and pny 6200 will work with that model.please note before you install the card you need to go to device manager under my computer properties to disable the onboard graphic driver, otherwise it will not work.Have Fun... Report Abuse

Reply:you have an ok pc so id say go with a radeon x1300 pro. great card. good price and good gaming!
Reply:You need to first determine what kind of slot is on your motherboard PCI, AGP or PCI-e. This article might help you in picking the right card:

http://www.gamegiants.net/article_info.p...
Reply:no mate, infact the bad news is that even pci-express and agp cards wont fit in your p.c,s motherboard

the only graphic card you can use is a standard pci graphics card, these will fit in the white pci slots on your motherboard(usually 2 or 3 of them)

i can never understand why dell refuse to fit motherboards with no pci-express or agp slots, this is the main reason i have never (and never will)buy a dell p,c

however there are a few decent pci graphic cards and one of them the "geforce 6200"from nvidia isnt bad at all

so we will start with that, the PNY TECHNOLOGIES Verto GeForce 6 6200/PCI 256MB DD from http://www.misco.co.uk/applications/Sear... is probally the best pci graphics card you will buy,its core clock speed of 300mhz is quite fast for a pci card and its 256mb of ddr2 ram running at 433mhz gives it a effective memory speed of 866mhz(2 * 433mhz/double data rate)

and as its got a heatsink cooling system this makes it near silent

this is also the only pci graphic card that uses pixel and shader model 3.0,which is a must if you want to play some of the latest games, and its also direct x 9.0c compatible

the nvidia geforce 6200 is a solid card and is a great improvment on any onboard graphics solution

other good pci based graphic cards are

1.Sapphire Radeon 9250 PCI 128MB DDR DVI TV OUT from http://www.misco.co.uk/applications/Sear... value card with average specs, great for watching dvd,s and primarilly a direct x 8 card

2.XFX Geforce 5200 256MB PCI grahics card from http://www.misco.co.uk/applications/Sear... card is sort of middle of the road, its pixel and shader model 2.0 (9250 uses 1.1) and has a faster clock speed than the geforce 6200(333mhz)

this card is a better looking card, epsecially good if you have a see through side panel on your p.c,and at the end of the day, this is a solid card with ok specs, and comes with a healthy price tag (£54.99 inc VAT)

i hope this helps, however the only way you will be ever able to use a better card is to upgrade your motherboard which isnt that expensive and pretty easy to do

infact you can buy a s.l.i(twin graphics) motherboard for less than £45,but you need to make sure your current processor wil fit the new motherboard, check the p.c,s manual for the socket type of your current motherboard

any problems let me know

good luck mate !
Reply:No. I had a friend last year who bought a graphics

card and it wouldn't fit into the standard AGP port.

And some time ago I bought a graphics card that wouldn't

work with anything but an Intel chip set.

Having said that most will, ask advice from the vendor.
Reply:You'll need to talk to Dell before you do.

I'm presuming you meant 'Dimension 3100.

Motherboards are only compatible with one particular video card. On top of this, Dell motherboards and cases do not always offer standard fittings and attachments. You may find there is a standard 8-speed AGP slot on your PC, but you would benefit from finding out whether your case will allow you to attach a card like this (of which there are an enormous variety.)

My advice: talk to Dell, but don't buy their own product if they try and sell you an upgrade, just get the make and model of the one they try and sell you, and get online to find an alternative.

How can I test and see which graphics cards are compatible with my computer?

If you know what open slots you have you've won 1/2 the battle... the type of graphics card you buy is dictated by what slot you have open. AGP, PCI, PCI Express, etc. They all look different.. if you search google images you'll find pictures of each to compare what you see open on your mother board.

You also need to know if you have an open power supply cable (some high end PCI Express cards need power connections).

How can I test and see which graphics cards are compatible with my computer?
Compare specs.

Confirm your card type (PCI, PCI Express, or AGP) and make sure your power supply can handle it and it can fit in your case. Once you know that stuff it's a piece of cake.
