Do laptops/notebooks have limits on types of processors and graphics cards?

I am going to move all my stuff from my desktop to my laptop, and I know I need to buy a new hard drive and ram, but what about the processor and graphics card???

Do laptops/notebooks have limits on types of processors and graphics cards?
In most laptop's the cpu and the graphics card are not upgradeable in that they are soldered to the board and can't be removed.
Reply:Depends on your specs and the type of computer.

A lot of over-the-counter computers (Compaq, Dell, etc) make it really hard to upgrade the processor. Graphics cards vary from comp to comp.

Also, new Dells and Compaqs are so cheep now it's more cost efficient to just buy a whole new tower in some cases.

But again it depends on what you have inside your current case and what you intend to do. Jacking up the RAM will usually speed up your compy quite a bit, however if you are playing massive games and have an old graphics card RAM isn't going to help. Same with your processor: 4GB RAM won't help much if you've got a processor that's still measured in MHz instead of GHz.

So it all depends on what you have now, and what you intend to do. Do a little on-line shopping and price-compare upgrades vs. new computer, and if the upgrades can even be DONE to your compy.

Cheers!
