What should I check before i buy myself a new graphics card?

I have a old pc which i got in 04-05. Its quite good back then but now its beginning to slow down. I want to change the graphics card. Can I just buy any graphics card and slot it in my motherboard, or are there some graphics cards that are only compatible in specific type of mother boards?

What should I check before i buy myself a new graphics card?
Odds are you have an AGP slot, but you will want to make sure.

Most power supplies will support an AGP card without any issues.

If you don't have an AGP slot for a video card, then you will need to buy a PCI card....not a PCIE (PCI-Express).

So odds are it will be an AGP card.

If not, then probably a standard PCI card.

Reply:There are slots on the bottom of the card, and you have to make sure they match up with what you have. These slots tell you the voltage of the card.
Reply:ok you probaly have a pci express -agp was a couple years earlier

if ur not sure check ur bios or online
Reply:Check how much money you have to spend on it :P
Reply:open up your pc and look at the types of expansion slots. for the time your computer came out you are probably going to have agp slots if you are lucky, but most likely pci slots. now, there are a few half decent cards out there that are relatively inexpensive that are agp, but it is kinda hard at the moment to find a good pci card.
