Installing 2 graphics cards so i can have dual monitors?

not looking to buy a new card (i know i can and it would be better) but i have my onboard graphics card and i have a pci and a agp slot open...the pci card is newer than the agp so i would prefer to use that. i plugged them in and connected them to 2 monitors and it reads the pci...i take that out and it reads the onboard..how do i get xp to read both? is there a program? thanks

Actually running two vidcards depends on your motherboard; the easiest way to use multiple video cards is to get an SLI compatible mobo.

It sounds like you're trying to avoid spending money, so give this a try: install the PCI card and then go into your bios screen (when your computer starts up, hit delete) - there may be an option there to reenable the onboard video, although that will use up some of your computer's memory. Video "Y" splitters are another possibility, although they will reduce your system's performance.
Reply:you can't use both pci and onboard. you can only use two cards on PCI-E slot, you can even use identical cards to activate sli mode.

moreover, a pci slot is older than agp slots, but pci slots are just more universal. but you can't also use both agp and onboard chip. the onboard will automatically be disabled.
Reply:the other graphics card must be disabling your onboard video.

I would try getting a VGA and pci video card together if you got old ones to try.
Reply:Most cards now, no all cards now above 50$ will have dual monitor support
Reply:If you want to get display in two monitors from one PC use VGA splitter card.
Reply:if ONE of your graphics cards have 2 ports...u can just use those....2 .....
