i have a Dell 3000 dimension and when i opened my computer up i didn't see any pci or apg slots...or maybe i was mistaken...but is it possible for it not to have one??? and if so how can i upgrade it to put better graphics on it???
Is it possible for computer not to have a graphics cards?
If there aren't any slots then your computer probably uses what is known as an Integrated Graphics card. The graphics card is built right into the motherboard and borrows memory from the System RAM.
You wouldn't be able to upgrade the card without those slots unless you replaced the motherboard. And even still an integrated card is not as good as a dedicated Graphics card with separate RAM.
Reply:I looked up the specs on your computer, and it says that you should have 3 PCI slots in it. It is very possible that all three slots are taken up with sound card, modem and perhaps another card. If you have an ethernet connection built in, and you don't use a dial up connection, you should be able to remove the phone modem card and use that slot for a graphics card. I hope this helps :)
Reply:The old Dell dimensions were awful graphics wise. Yours contains the Intel Graphics Accelerator 3100. I found through careful research when I had a dimension 3100 that the best graphics card for your computer is the ATI Radeon X1300/1550 chipset from Visiontek. It fits in one of your PCI slots, and will play most complex video games.
Reply:computers needs to have a graphics adapter, but not always in the form of a card. you computer has a built-in graphics adapter..
it should have at least 2 PCI slot and 1 AGP slot or 1 PCI-Express slot
you can put a better graphics card on the PCI Express or on the AGP slot..
Reply:No. Every computer has a graphics card or graphics accelerator, if you can't see it you have a Integrated card.
i looked up your computer and it has no pci slots.
Reply:a lot of motherboards have onboard graphics, if this is the case, it cannot be upgraded
