All good graphics cards you read about today concentrate on speed for games %26amp; put quality of colours second if at all. We don't play games. Are there cards which concentrate on quality of still photos above game speeds? Is such a card needed? We have an ATI Radeon 9600 128mb DDR. Is that good enough for high quality photos?
Are there PC graphics cards AGP or PCI especially for still photos %26amp; not only fast games?
I,m sure there are but lets make it simple. A cheap ATI card will do what you want. Stay away from Nvidia, they seem to be darker and you cant ever get the gamma up. Keep in mind too, most times, your monitor is the problem with your color!
Reply:He's right, graphics cards will not do anything for photos or other 2D images....
Unless you have a Macintosh.

And yes, Dr. HOUSE, a Macintosh.

Reply:Pictures arent dependant on the video card at all. Video cards are only needed for things that are being rendered live, such as games and some 3D graphical design programs. A game with a high framerate could have a video card creating over 100 pictures a second. When dealing with pictures or movies (which are technacly a series of still pictures appearing on the screen for a fraction of a second each with sound playing at the same time) the pictures are not being rendered. They are already created and just being displayed.
So in short upgrading your video card wont fix the colors being off on your pictures. Thats probably the fault of your monitor and you probably just need to adjust it to display properly.
Reply:Rendering still 2D images is not terribly demanding.
In fact you only actually need about 16Mb of Ram to render still photos at the Highest resolutions in full 32 bit colour (16 million colours)
Your 9600 is more than adequate for your requirements.
As you so rightly point out the more powerfull (and expensive) cards are primarily for gaming and high end video production.
In general ATI cards are faster than Nvidia cards for 2d apps.
