Is it possible to SLI two graphics cards with different memory sizes?

I have two geforce 8600gt cards a Sparkle with 256MB DDR3 and an Xpertvision with 512MB DDR3. both cards are detected in device manager and nvidia system information but there is no option to enable multi-gpu support in the nvidia control panel. I contacted nvidia and they told me to try the coolbits tweak, but that did not work. I have tried two 7600gs cards and they work in SLI mode. Please help!

You could have a go at changing the device ID on the slower card using rivatuner. Though it's risky and may not work.

Reply:I believe the cards have to be identcal chipsets and sizes to work in SLI.
Reply:yea they do have to be same size in memory and same chipsets ..sorry.

ATI CROSSFIRE 4 LIFE!!
Reply:not necessary... if you check the nvidia site they will give you more info on that... but if i remember when i was doing my research to buy my cards for my sli setup i remember seeing that it said you could but if they were different speeds the slowest one would be the speed of both and the same with the memory but then i might be way wrong on this. just check the nvidia sli site they will give you all the info that you need on that
