Can a graphics cards be too big for my case?

Heres an easy question for you.

I'm building a system right now, and I have a quick question.

I have see how huge video cards can be, and was just wondering if a large video card will fit in any normal atx case.

The one I picked out is the Ultra X-blaster if it matters.

Can a graphics cards be too big for my case?
The only cards you might have to worry about are everything above and including the 8 series nVidia cards. (Not sure about ATI.) If you get a full tower case you'll be fine with any video card, and a mid tower case should fit most cards. You should be fine, unless the card is insanely huge. The website/store from which you're buying the card should have the dimensions on it so you can measure if need be.

Hope this helps.
Reply:I cannot stand mid cases anymore. One I bought my first Server case, I was won over. I use the Thermaltake armor series. But I have put 8800GTX's in micro cases by modding the aluminum with a metal jigsaw. You can make it fit. But then you have to worry about airflow. Something that big and powerful is gonna use up some power and produce heat.

So to answer your question. Even if it does fit. Worry about airflow.
Reply:They will fit in Mid ATX and Full ATX cases, most newer cards (with the exception of the 9800 GTX and GTX 200 series) are around 9 inches long.

The worst that can happen is that you need to move your hard drives to a 5.25" or floppy bay and mod the hard drive cage to fit the card.
Reply:Some of the more powerful cards occupy 2 spots in your case because they are twice as thick. And depending on your open slot and motherboard it may interfere with memory modules. Since you are building from scratch most likely you will be OK. Make sure you install your video card first.
Reply:The video card won't be too large for a standard ATX case, but depending on the layout of your motherboard you might end up blocking an adjacent PCI or PCIe slot if the video card has a huge fan attached to it.
Reply:Some cards are really long. Those can hit your chipset, heatsink, or hard drives. But, for most cards and cases, space isn't an issue.
