Is it possible to have Dual PCI graphics cards in a dell dimension 3000?

I have a dell dimension 3000 with windows xp media center addition on it and 1gb of ram. I only have pci ports available, so I was wondering if it is possible to have dual pci graphics cards? Like two geforce fx 5500's. If so, would there be a significant gain in performance when playing games?

You could go ahead and put two in, but they would not work together, you could only use one at a time. SLI is where you use two at the same time, but that only works on PCI Express cards.

Even if it was possible, Dell power supplies cant handle them.


Upgrading your current power supply? Out of the question as Dell uses proprietary hardware making there PC's extremely limited to upgrade.


One of the best PCI cards is the FX5600 and that wont run ANY high end game.





Why do so many people find Dell's to be so good? Its a joke.
Reply:No, you can not use dual graphics cards with PCI, you can only use SLI or Crossfire with PCI-E x16 slots with a supported motherboard.





you would see more of a performace gain with just buying a better card then two 5500's anyway. Do you have an APG slot? If not, then you really need to upgrade your motherboard before you see any real gain
Reply:with no agp or pci-express slots, you need to get a new motherboard to buy "real" video cards (a new power supply may be required too). pci video cards jus don't cut it when it comes to games and cannot be "dualed"





to run dual graphics cards (SLI or CrossFire) you would need





a) a SLI or Crossfire capabable motherboard w/ 2 PCI-Express x16 slots





b) 2 identical video cards that are SLI or Crossfire Ready

performance gain in games.. That is a unknown to me because I have never done any dual graphics cards.
