Do most motherboards support multiple graphics cards at once?

I've noticed that a lot of motherboards have more than one PCI-E slot, does this mean you could have a different graphics card in every slot and have them share the load of work?

Do most motherboards support multiple graphics cards at once?
Not a different graphics card perse, they should be alike. Do Not use two different graphics cards. Yes, multiple graphics cards share the load. Be aware of the chipset used on the mobo. (Motherboard) Research it. For example: An Nvidia nForce 680i chipset will support two graphics cards in PCI-Express x16 slots, at 16x. (16 Lanes) That is both cards will truly operate at 16x. When some motherboard chipsets have two graphics cards operating, one card operates at 16x, and one at 8x. Secondly, there are two versions of PCI-Express x16. There is PCI-Express 1.1 version, and PCI-Express 2.0 version. A graphics card that is PCI-Express 2.0 is backward compatible with a PCI-Express 1.1 slot. Confused? Sorry! Here's sum information that may help clear things up:

Reply:yes, but make sure you are putting the card in the PCI-E x16 slot.

another point, you must have the same model graphics card to do this, and you will need at least a 500 watt power supply for most multi-graphics cards set-up.
