Let's say I get a Dell XPS 630 with one 8800GT. Can I get a BFG 8800gt from newegg.com after I get the XPS and both have them work together in SLI? They're both 8800gt's but one is stock and the other is overclocked. Would this work or would I have to get two BFG 8800gt's?
Can I have two SLI capable graphics cards of different speeds work together in SLI mode when bridged?
if they're oc'd doesn't matter, they just have to have the same name (8800gt) and the same amount of VRAM.

Will two different graphics cards work togther in same computer?
I want to know before any problems arise
Will two different graphics cards work togther in same computer?
I think it depends a lot on the cards themselves, and what they are meant to and able to do. I do know that some computers (for gaming, primarily) are being built with multiple graphics cards.
Reply:I am pretty sure they will. I have done that before for a dual display setup. I am pretty sure they were 2 different manufactured cards too. One AGP %26amp; one PCI, worked fine.
Now I just buy cards that have dual display, and save a slot.

Are there any Windows XP Nvidia Drivers for the 8 Series Graphics Cards that have DX10 Support?
I have a hacked version of DX10 for XP, but I don't think my graphics card drivers are up-to-date on DX10.
Are there any Windows XP Nvidia Drivers for the 8 Series Graphics Cards that have DX10 Support?
Hacked dx10 = hacked dx10 drivers? I looked on nvidia site for drivers for the 8000 series and they are all for dx9 or lower, if you go to the 8000 series for vista there are dx10 drivers because it has dx10 on it, suppose you could try those, or you could totally beef your card by putting vista drivers on it while running xp. I would put the most money on hacked drivers..

What graphics cards will work in my system?
i have a dell dimension 5150 with a geforce 7300LE currently. i would like to get a new card preferabley below £100.
The problem is that i can not find any with direct x 10 that will phisically fit (card is too long).
i need PCI-E and i have a 305watt power supply.
Thanks.
What graphics cards will work in my system?
I would go for the EVGA GeForce 8600GTS with 512MB 128-bit GDDR3. It's $210 right now @ Newegg.com, minus a $20 rebate the final price is $190. It is DirectX 10 and HDCP ready. Its length is 9" and height is 4.76" (the same as most of their high-end cards).
I wouldn't put too much emphasis on the DirectX 10 factor. I'm playing Lost Planet with a similar 8600 GTS using DirectX 9 and I can't imagine the picture quality being any better; it's like playing a true VIDEO game. You'll be able to play anything available for several years to come with this card. And down the road, if you want more power, then just get a dual-PCIe board and another 8600 GTS for twice the power!
Reply:First, the ATI x1k series of cards is DX9 only. The Xenos GPU (the video card in the Xbox360) isn't DX10 either. It supports many DX10 features, but it is NOT DX10 compatible. For example, it lacks any form of geometry shaders. It does have a unified shader architecture, but thats about it.
Second, you don't need a DX10 card to run Aero glass. It requires a DX9 video card.
To the OP, I'm sure you can find a number of good choices, but you need to change your thinking a bit. First, unless you get the 8800GTS or better, there aren't really any other DX10 cards that will provide playable frame rates while using DX10. Look at a review of the 8600GT series of cards. When using DX10, these cards are simply to weak to get near 60FPS. In addition, unless you are running Vista, you can't use DX10 anyways.
So what cards does that leave? With the 305W dell PSU, not many. It lacks the power needed to drive one of the x1950pros, which is one of the better DX9 video cards. About the best you could probably get is a 7900GS or a 7600GT. Either of these would be good. If the difference in price is small enough, then you could get the 8600GT, just don't expect to play DX10 games with it.
Reply:you could probably use any low end ATI Radeon X series card although they do not advertise that they are direct x 10 compatible these cards were all released after ATI was awarded the contract for the Xbox 360 which is direct X 10 compatible. My PC motherboard has built in Radeon X300 graphics and it ran Windows Vista Ultimate with no issues, which requires a direct X 10 card for the aero effects
I would also recommend upgrading your power supply to one that will support a higher end graphics card. most new graphics cards have additional power requirements that a 305W power supply will likely not support.

When is Nvidia's 9 series graphics cards going to come out?
Has nvidia released the specs yet? Are the new cards going to use PCI2 or whatever?
When is Nvidia's 9 series graphics cards going to come out?
Probably next year.
The 8800 GT already uses PCI-E II, so the 9 series will probably too.

When installing dual graphics cards must they be identical?
I have one card and want to use it in a barebones kit, but the included card is not the same. They are both 256 megs.
When installing dual graphics cards must they be identical?
2 graphics cards of the same model that do not support SLI will conflict each other and cause headaches, this means the cards must be SLI and your MOBO must also be SLI compatible.
Reply:if they are both 256 why change it? Unless the card you want to install has different connectors theres really no point.....but if you want to install it you need to disable the onboard card as it will conflict with the agp or pci card.

Ok im not good at tech, but here it goes! what are the benifits of putting two graphics card or cpu cards in p
really do you get the best of both worlds? like if i put two graphics cards or gpu's in a pc, instead of 500mhz will i 1000mhz?
like i said before im not good with tech and im learning so bear with me.
Ok im not good at tech, but here it goes! what are the benifits of putting two graphics card or cpu cards in p
If you're talking about the real processor not multi core, of course you will get double if supposed you put 2x 500 MHz. It also applies to the graphics card. But the question of how good is really depends on definition how good is good! It depends on your needs. What i can say is you must pay more to do this.
Reply:in theory you do get double the speed, but in reality you don't because most programs aren't written to recognise dual videocards, however dual cpu cores is common now, and so new programs are beginning to recognize it, but not quad core is not
so you can get double the speeds (or quad) if the program will use the hardware
Reply:I have two video cards. It's known as SLI (Google it). Is it worth it? For me it is, but I play igh end PC games and place huge demands on my computer. For the average user, dual video cards would be a waste of money. A fast processor running high end RAM on a Vista machine will produce the desired results for those that seek a state-of-the-art PC far general use.
Reply:Graphics cards are confusing, the speed and ram have little to do with performance, the model number and architecture have everything to do with it. For instance, a fx5500 running at 400mhz with 256mb of ram is less than 1/10th the power of a x1600 with the same numbers. Its all because of better architecture.
Here is one of the best sources of benchmarks, you can compare almost every card made in the last 5-7 years and more:

As graphics cards get newer and better do you think they will use more or less power?
Asking because my power supply is only 300 watts and I want a good card like the 8800gts but that requires 450. Already looked at the 8600gtx and i want something a little better. Thanks.
As graphics cards get newer and better do you think they will use more or less power?
um the ati radeon 3870 only uses a six pin adapter. Unlike teh nvidia.
Reply:no, get a new psu on a combo deal with an 8800gts or something.
here's the thing
processors keep getting smaller, less consuming
so do mother board, energy efficent
but for some reason, video cards just keep getting bigger and more aggressive
and thanks to nvidia we've got a 2ft tall video card ,
9800GX2 ,
I'm just wondering about the next series , 3ft ? 4ft ? Karim Abdul Jabar ?
Reply:Most gaming video cards, especially those big, good looking SLI cards, they need more power.

What are the best graphics cards on the market right now?
Looking for maybe the best few and why.
Specifically wondering about nVidia.

yeah definitally 7900GTX extreme from XFX make sure u get the extreme its alot better perfomance also 512mb of it at PCI Express x16 thats just insane then if you would use SLI technology which i recommend with the 7900GTX extreme which has 512mb of ram so if you dual weild them thats 1024MB OF VIDEO CARD!!! thats just insane your fps would own any video card also if you have a HDTV this card is great it pumps out HD graphics and it comes with the adapter for it so if you download a video with HD you can put it on ur HD TV and its like your watching it at home... very awesome video card...!!! recommend!!
Reply:7900 GTX, as far as I know. Nvidia just released this card..it's even cheaper than the 7800 GTX and has the same performance, if not better.
Reply:The best of the best is the EVGA 7900GTX Superclocked, which retails for $579.99 on their website. Now, if you want to have the best machine, you hook up 4 of these monsters into a quad-configuration SLI (you'll be hard pressed to find the motherboards that actually support this). But if you can get one, then safe to say you won't need any graphics card upgrades for the next decade.

Does using SLI to combine graphics cards essentially double your GPU power?
Additionally, do they have to be the exact same graphics card? (i.e. same manufacturer (EVGA...) and GT/GTX.
Does using SLI to combine graphics cards essentially double your GPU power?
yep in short it does but technically it depends on what your useing it for, getting twice the speed depends on how the game your useing it for works and how it is programed, newer games like crysis will deffinatly be able to use both graphics card but if the game was made for x-box then ported to pc like splinter cell double agent then you wont get double the speed but games like splinter cell and halo probably don't need that much speed. and yes they do have to be exactly the same.
Reply:SLI is short for Scalable Link Interface. SLI is proprietary to Nvidia graphics cards and is a method of allowing two graphics cards of the same model to be linked and share the load of rendering the graphics on screen. Using two graphics cards linked via SLI greatly improves the performance of the system by rendering the graphics faster. Often up to a 2 times improvement is seen.
Reply:The graphic cards must be the same and SLI compatible. Improvement is not fully doubled but an improvement of a minimum 70-80% is obtained not fully 100% doubled. And ya it takes a lot of power!! New power supply need to be bought, over 750W.

What are some laptops with graphics cards that have openGL support?
I need a laptop pc for college that has openGL support and at least 2GB of memory. My school offers the Lenovo Thinkpad T61U, but i would rather get an HP because I hate the Thinkpads.
What are some good laptops that have openGL and at least 2GB of memory under $1,500. Thanks for your help.
What are some laptops with graphics cards that have openGL support?
nearly every laptop sold supports openGL and HP would almost surely support it...personally haven't dealt with a computer that didn't in years hp's a good quality...so are acer, asus, sony. stay away from toshiba and gateway...but realistically almost all laptops are the same they all use the same parts...I personally would look for something in the HP dv series intel core 2 duo (aka celeron core 2 duo) anyway (1.83ghz or higher) get the 2.0 or 2.5 if you can afford it...and if you doing something with like graphical design or animation or engineering you may want one with a discreet (dedicated) video cards such as the nvidia 8600gt m or 8800 gtx m for example.

Is it possible to have Dual PCI graphics cards in a dell dimension 3000?
I have a dell dimension 3000 with windows xp media center addition on it and 1gb of ram. I only have pci ports available, so I was wondering if it is possible to have dual pci graphics cards? Like two geforce fx 5500's. If so, would there be a significant gain in performance when playing games?
Is it possible to have Dual PCI graphics cards in a dell dimension 3000?
You could go ahead and put two in, but they would not work together, you could only use one at a time. SLI is where you use two at the same time, but that only works on PCI Express cards.
Reply:No, you cant have SLI with PCI cards.
Even if it was possible, Dell power supplies cant handle them.
Upgrading your current power supply? Out of the question as Dell uses proprietary hardware making there PC's extremely limited to upgrade.
One of the best PCI cards is the FX5600 and that wont run ANY high end game.
Why do so many people find Dell's to be so good? Its a joke.
Reply:No, you can not use dual graphics cards with PCI, you can only use SLI or Crossfire with PCI-E x16 slots with a supported motherboard.
you would see more of a performace gain with just buying a better card then two 5500's anyway. Do you have an APG slot? If not, then you really need to upgrade your motherboard before you see any real gain
Reply:with no agp or pci-express slots, you need to get a new motherboard to buy "real" video cards (a new power supply may be required too). pci video cards jus don't cut it when it comes to games and cannot be "dualed"
to run dual graphics cards (SLI or CrossFire) you would need
a) a SLI or Crossfire capabable motherboard w/ 2 PCI-Express x16 slots
b) 2 identical video cards that are SLI or Crossfire Ready
Reply:the possablity for doing dual graphics cards. I do not see any problems
performance gain in games.. That is a unknown to me because I have never done any dual graphics cards.

Who is the best manufacturer for graphics cards for PC's?
I've only had the chance to use ATI (Radeon) but I would like to know 2 things
1 - list in order the different manufactures, what their weaknesses are and what is good about their cards
2 - what is the normal for video card memory now? 128mb? 256mb? 512mb? 1gb? I'm thinking 128 - 256...
3 - what are retail prices?
Basically, just anything you know about them nowadays. Thx!
Who is the best manufacturer for graphics cards for PC's?
intel
http://www.intel.com/products/graphics/i...
Reply:Lol @ Intel.
No, Intel is a DISTANT 4th in graphic card performance.
Stick with ATI or NVIDIA. Which one is best varies depending on the model and what type of games you intend to play.
Here is a link that allows you to compare cards based on the type of game:
http://www.tomshardware.com/charts/graph...
As far as the norm for video memory, it depends on how much you are willing to spend but the average is about 384mb.
Retail prices vary, but you can expect to pay about $200 US for a solid performer.
Reply:You'll get a range of opinions on this, although to be honest, its more personal preference most of the time rather than hard facts.
Personally, I prefer nVidia but have never used an ATI card... nor do I intend to do so in the forseeable future. As for the individual card manufacturers, I'm not really that bothered. I guess Gainward, XFX, BFG and Asus would be just some of the popular brands, but you'd have to compare individual specs (and reviews) to see which one produces the 'best' card.
Reply:nvidia geforce is the best one and has no faultsin it except that it is more costlier.
a cheaper one is ATI, although very good, lacks some graphic display opetions and other cool features of nvidia
intel's diplay card is the most popular one nowadays alongwit nvidia, they are also very very good
Reply:nVidia or ATI by far and i would recomend 256-512mb for games.
Reply:Normal Graphics memory 512MB - 1024MB.
Retail prices range from 250$ - 800$
Nvidia and ATI are the primary graphics cards technologies. ATI Produces all of theres and Nvidia has many flavors and series. I'm not too familiar with ATI.
EVGA
PNY
OCZ all have their own flavors of Nvidia cards... I prefer EVGA. They've got the ball rolling.
Besides... any GAME hardware manufacturer naming a motherboard "750i SLI FTW" (750i Scalable-Link Interface For The Win) is gamer engineers for gamers kind of company! haha!

Besides... any GAME hardware manufacturer naming a motherboard "750i SLI FTW" (750i Scalable-Link Interface For The Win) is gamer engineers for gamers kind of company! haha!
What are some good graphics cards for call of duty 4?
I'm thinking of buying a computer to buy call of duty 4 and I was wondering what cards are good for it to run on medium or high settings? Like the nVIDIA 8800 GT, what else? Under 250$
What are some good graphics cards for call of duty 4?
the 8800GT will EASILY run it on all high settings...go for it

When using two 8800 GTX graphics cards, is it safe to fill the extra PCI slots?
I am looking to purchase a DFI LanParty UT NF680i LT SLI-T2R motherboard, and I have two 8800 GTX graphics cards. I would like to use another PCI slot for my audio card, and maybe a TV card, but am concerned as to the safety of doing so (I don't want to damage any of the cards) because of how close they would sit to one another. Can anyone tell me whether or not this is feasible with this system? Thank you!!
When using two 8800 GTX graphics cards, is it safe to fill the extra PCI slots?
Yep they should be fine, just watch the temp on them (if you can), make sure the fans are clean, and can get a little bit of airflow through them.
- The Answer Man.
Reply:You shouldn't be worried about how close they are together. The only problem you may come up with is that the GTX won't fit in the computer tower itself or that the GTX over hangs a PCI slot but if thats the case with overhanging the other PCI slot don't worry because obviously you won't be able to put another card in that slot. If you would like to monitor your temp of the cards you can get a program called SpeedFan from http://www.almico.com/speedfan433.exe
Reply:It'll be fine, they were designed to be able to withstand the heat.
Even if the 8800GTXs do have their heat increased a little, it won't matter since the fans will also increase in speed to cool down faster.

What are some good graphics cards on the market?
Not more than $400.Should be good for gaming(Windows) and can also run with ubuntu(edubuntu to be more specific, but i dont think it makes a difference)
What do u think of nvdia?
What are some good graphics cards on the market?
Edit:
By "compatibility with computer," he means things like your powersupply, what type of slot you have on your motherboard (pci, agp, pci-e), etc
Nvidia is the best for compatibility for both Windows and Linux. Anything made by Nvidia is Linux-Compatible
I'm thinking of buying this:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as...
It has a pretty good clock rate (and it's easy to overclock) and 512mb of DDR3 ram
It should be able to handle modern games fine
I think in like febuary or march, Nvidia is releasing the geforce 9 series so you might want to wait a little.
It's about $120 and there's a $20 mail in rebate.
But if you're willing to spend a lot go with:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as...
Which should handle any game out there on high settings with ease
Reply:this is far and away the best bang-for-the-buck card on the market today:

it will run anything you throw at it brilliantly, though it might struggle with crysis depending on the rest of your system. Other options are the newer spec 8800GTS and GTX series and possible the ati 3870 if you are running amd stuff.
Reply:Almost all the cards from NVidia are good. They work with Linux albeit after some work. Unlike ATI ones.
Reply:I am currently running Nvidia GT8600 and love the results. Prior to that, I was using the stock video card and it sucked. If your computer is compatible, try running Nvidia 8800. This is one of the best cards on the market for gaming and is extremely affordable.
Good luck with your gaming!
Edit: Inside your computer are slots that the card should plug into. On the box of the video card, it will tell you the type of slots the card requires to fit in your computer. The box will say something like "this card requires PCI slots" or "This card has PCI slots". Also it will list RAM and processor requirements to run the card. That is the compatibility I was speaking of. Hope this Helps.
Reply:Buy an overclocked version of the 512MB 8800GT. The GTS is a little faster but, according to the reviews, it isn't worth the extra cash. If you can add an extra $50 you may want to consider this card which is supposed to be 30% faster than the Ultra and is only gonna be $449. Supposed to be making its debut on Feb 14.

Reply:Nvidia's perfect.
400 dollars for a graphics card is plenty and i'd go for the 8800 Ultra SLi, get dual cards if you can cuz it'll be awesome and run everything you throw at it.
Reply:I am unable to advise you on this as I am not a gamer, however I would suggest you do use a Nvidia GeForce card, as there seems to be slight compatability issues ATI Radeon.

How do i setup two graphics cards?
hi
how do i configure my packard bell imedia 5055 to use both the onboard graphics card (sis 650) and the seperate one (nvidia geforce 2 mx 400)
i have looked through the bios but i cannot find a way to activate both of them.
if one is activated windows will not notice the other one.
How do i setup two graphics cards?
You can use two of the same graphics cards in an SLI setup (If your motherboard supports it) but NOT integrated with a card.

Do more graphics cards mean better quality graphics?
Hi, I saw a system with more than one discrete graphics cards attached only to one monitor. Someone said that even if only one screen is attached, more graphics cards mean better graphics. Is this true? Do they combine their power or something like that?
Do more graphics cards mean better quality graphics?
If you have nVidia its called SLI or ATI has crossfire or something like that. All it does is link two video cards so they will give double the normal video processing power for whatever graphics application. Also the monitor is not hooked up to them both at the same time, the video cards are connected by a small link cable and the monitor is plugged into the primary video card. (Your motherboard also has to support this function.)
Reply:yes they do, they are usually connected inside the pc, but the motherboard must support this tech.
Reply:Yes the tri sli is the most expensive on the market at the moment
thats 3 graphics cards in sli most people buy one 8800 gt cause it can play all the new games on high and when more come out you can buy another one and duel wield them in sli for better performance if you have another pcie slot on your motherboard only the 8800gtx and the 8800 ultra can be 3 tri sli
Reply:Yes, but it's expensive and really only appropriate for some games and high-end graphics programs. The cards share the graphics load and permit faster processing of graphics commands. They must share PCI Express slots on the MB.
Reply:yea with more graphics cards you can hook up more monitors or for example connect 2 video cards to 1 monitor for those that support it

Why do graphics cards have minimum requirements for power supplys?
what does the power supply do for the graphics card? isnt the power connected directly to the motherboard? what happens if a graphics card doesnt have enough power?
Why do graphics cards have minimum requirements for power supplys?
The newest video cards are small computers in their own right. Actually more powerful than some of the earliest desk tops. May of them require a direct connection to the power supply in order to work. The maker tries to guess the average power used by most installations, then add the power the video card will supply, hence, the minimum power requirement for the power supply.
Reply:Well, each part in the computer needs power (of course) so the GPU (Graphic Processing Unit) isn't the only one that needs to be powered. Some graphics cards can take more power than the entire system. It is just to give your PSU (power supply unit) some extra working room so that it doesn't fry or something else. That is why the manufacturers have a minimum PSU wattage listed. Some low watt PSU can handle it but it might be a little louder and get hotter. Just check the wattage for your GPU.
Reply:Generaly, Graphic cards now usually comes with powerful cooling fans, which keeps the cards cool, since graphic demands are high nowdays, But you can still use the card even if you don't have enough power to run the fan, but note, it may cause serioous damage to your card!
Reply:Most modern Graphics cards no longer draw their power from the motherboard, as well... they require more power than the motherboard can provide! They typically have their own connection to the power supply.

What are some graphics cards that can play COD4?
Well, I've got a EVGA geforce 8800 GTS 320 MB, and it's perfect. I paid $129 6 months ago for it, so it isn't bad.
I exceed the recommended specs.

What graphics cards can i buy for a compaq presario sr1726nx computer?
I have never upgraded its hardware and I want a video card for high fps on games like World of Warcraft and Counter Strike.
What graphics cards can i buy for a compaq presario sr1726nx computer?
you can pretty much choose what you want because you do have a x16 pci-e slot. so look for a pci express video card. I would say a 8800GT 512MB card, but because the specs I can find don't list what the power supply is I can't say forsure if adding a high performing card won't cause instability.
I would also upgrade the ram to atleast 1GB, with 2 512MB sticks or better yet 2GB with 2 1GB sticks. that 512 total ram is going to limit you in games.
So be prepared to upgrade the power supply if you drop in a newer graphics card. The good news is that you probably don't need the latest cards, so look for something along the lines of a nvidia 6800GT or slightly better.

Can a graphics cards be too big for my case?
Heres an easy question for you.
I'm building a system right now, and I have a quick question.
I have see how huge video cards can be, and was just wondering if a large video card will fit in any normal atx case.
The one I picked out is the Ultra X-blaster if it matters.
Can a graphics cards be too big for my case?
The only cards you might have to worry about are everything above and including the 8 series nVidia cards. (Not sure about ATI.) If you get a full tower case you'll be fine with any video card, and a mid tower case should fit most cards. You should be fine, unless the card is insanely huge. The website/store from which you're buying the card should have the dimensions on it so you can measure if need be.
Hope this helps.
Reply:I cannot stand mid cases anymore. One I bought my first Server case, I was won over. I use the Thermaltake armor series. But I have put 8800GTX's in micro cases by modding the aluminum with a metal jigsaw. You can make it fit. But then you have to worry about airflow. Something that big and powerful is gonna use up some power and produce heat.
So to answer your question. Even if it does fit. Worry about airflow.
Reply:They will fit in Mid ATX and Full ATX cases, most newer cards (with the exception of the 9800 GTX and GTX 200 series) are around 9 inches long.
The worst that can happen is that you need to move your hard drives to a 5.25" or floppy bay and mod the hard drive cage to fit the card.
Reply:Some of the more powerful cards occupy 2 spots in your case because they are twice as thick. And depending on your open slot and motherboard it may interfere with memory modules. Since you are building from scratch most likely you will be OK. Make sure you install your video card first.
Reply:The video card won't be too large for a standard ATX case, but depending on the layout of your motherboard you might end up blocking an adjacent PCI or PCIe slot if the video card has a huge fan attached to it.
Reply:Some cards are really long. Those can hit your chipset, heatsink, or hard drives. But, for most cards and cases, space isn't an issue.

Which graphics cards have more bang for the buck?
I'm looking to buy a new graphics card.
10 points goes to whoever finds a good graphics card with the most bang for the buck with these specs:
It has to be under $160.
Be compatible with Windows Vista.
PCI-express x16 compatibility.
If you have any other recommendations for graphics cards, please help.
Thank you.
Which graphics cards have more bang for the buck?
I would recommend this video card for under $160, it meets and exceeds all your pre-requisites listed here. Two reasons I recommend this video card over others are: 1) XFX backs all their video cards with a lifetime Parts and Labor guarrantee, something most other manufacturer's don't; 2) The card uses heat spreaders to dissapate heat versus most others using one or more fans which will eventually collect dust and dirt which leads to GPU overheat and video card failure.
I run a pair of these in SLI mode in my main machine, a truely awesome combination.

What are the best graphics cards i can get for gaming?
i dont care about the price. i want the best ati graphics card and the best nvidia graphics card.
What are the best graphics cards i can get for gaming?
The first thing to finding a good graphics card is finding out how much VRAM is has. (Video RAM). All the graphics cards are named "Bla Bla 8600 GS XTA Bla bla", but what you need to do is find one with a high amount of VRAM.
I have an Nvidia Graphics card with 512mb VRAM, (which can run demanding games such as Call of Duty 4 no problem), and if you want a REALLY great Video Card, get a video card with 512mb VRAM or more. You can get cards with 768MB VRAM. A 512mb VRAM card costs anywhere between £50-£120 (UK). If you're in the USA, I don't know how much they cost over there (sorry). I bought my Graphics card for £55 which is a great deal.
A card with a higher amount of VRAM will obviously cost more. Remember though, you need a FAST processor and a high amount of RAM aswell as a kick-*** graphics card. 2GB RAM is how much you should have if you don't want problems.
So yeh, find a card with 512mb VRAM or more, and look around for the best deal.
Also, what you could do, is take a look at Gaming PCs online, and see what graphics cards they come with, and look around for those cards.
Reply:As papa stated, look at how many watts your Power Supply can deliver.
You need to calculate how much your system needs. Be sure to include CPU (65-150watts), GPU(30-180watts), hard drive (7watts ea), motherboard (30-50W), sound card (3-15W), DVD (4W) etc and so on.
Then you have to decide on interface. Most pc's are PCIe but if you have an old pc, you MIGHT be AGP.
Then NVidia is usually the best for gaming. I would recommend an 8600GT as a minimum for gaming. I would state the 7 series, but it is going by the wayside. I also dont know much about the new 9 series.
IF you can support SLI (Scalable Link Interface), that provides VERY good gaming - but 1) You motherboard has to support it and 2) Your power supply has to support it.
When looking at Video Cards, make sure:
1) Has enough watts to power your system
2) Has enough power on the 12V rail (shown as +12v@18A on the power supply label - this means it has 216Watts to supply all the objects on the 12V rail.
Good Luck

How do you use SLI to run dual EVGA 7100 GS graphics cards?
I just bought two of these cards for my computer. They say SLI compatible, but I don't know how to connect them to increase my graphics capability.
How do you use SLI to run dual EVGA 7100 GS graphics cards?
Wow! 7100GS slowpokes in SLI.
Since you do not know how to configure SLI, you could have made things easier/simpler by just getting a single 7300GT ddr3 or a 7600GS.
Your nightmares are just about to begin.

Can you give me the list of ATI and NVIDIA graphics cards that are better than the NVIDIA Geforce 7900 series?
My friend has an Nvidia 7900 series card.........and the graphics are pretty cool.... I got a Nvidia 7300 GS.... but I want one that is better than his...... a long list would be nice :) Both ATI and NVIDIA.... thanx!
Can you give me the list of ATI and NVIDIA graphics cards that are better than the NVIDIA Geforce 7900 series?
Best price for power hands down on the market NVIDIA 8800 GT.
Other great graphics cards are NVIDIA 8800 series and the new NVIDIA 9600/9800 series.
There is nothing that great from ATI. The 8800GT will out perform almost anything from ATI for much less cost too.
If you are going to get into SLI or 2 on 1 cards NVIDIA will still out perform the current ATI line-up.

Reply:From nVidia: 8800 GT, 8800 GTX (and Ultra), 9600GT (possibly), 9800 GTX (and GX2).
From ATI: X1900/X1950 XT's, 2900 XT, 3870, 3870x2.
Based on the current graphics cards that are out there in the market. The next generation of cards due out in a few months is not included.
And no, an 8800 GT will *not* outperform everything ATI has (it'll fall short to a 3870x2 and a 2900 XT 1GB). It just happens to be a very good card at pricepoint.
Hope this helps, have fun schooling your friend's 7900.
Reply:Well i dont know much about the ati ones but nvidias are done in series so a high end 7 series (i.e the 7900) would be better then a low end 8 series, so really anything 8600+ id say for nvidia to out do your friends, and the website in the sources part can be used to compare graphics cards so you can find one to top your friends. Hope this helped Notty.

Is it possible to SLI two graphics cards with different memory sizes?
I have two geforce 8600gt cards a Sparkle with 256MB DDR3 and an Xpertvision with 512MB DDR3. both cards are detected in device manager and nvidia system information but there is no option to enable multi-gpu support in the nvidia control panel. I contacted nvidia and they told me to try the coolbits tweak, but that did not work. I have tried two 7600gs cards and they work in SLI mode. Please help!
Is it possible to SLI two graphics cards with different memory sizes?
You could have a go at changing the device ID on the slower card using rivatuner. Though it's risky and may not work.
http://www.trustedreviews.com/graphics/r...
Reply:Did it work? Report Abuse
Reply:I believe the cards have to be identcal chipsets and sizes to work in SLI.
Reply:yea they do have to be same size in memory and same chipsets ..sorry.
p.s.
ATI CROSSFIRE 4 LIFE!!
Reply:not necessary... if you check the nvidia site they will give you more info on that... but if i remember when i was doing my research to buy my cards for my sli setup i remember seeing that it said you could but if they were different speeds the slowest one would be the speed of both and the same with the memory but then i might be way wrong on this. just check the nvidia sli site they will give you all the info that you need on that

What does it mean if a computer has dual graphics cards?
Like in the Dell XPS 630 it has dual NVidia 8800GT 512MB cards.
Does that mean that it actually uses 1024MB for video or do they alternate or something?
What does it mean if a computer has dual graphics cards?
It means it has TWO graphics cards. Most likely, they are SLI'ed. If it is, then the computer is able to take the power of two graphics card and combine it into 1 super powerful card. Well, kinda. Its similar to the idea of multicore processors.
Reply:conecting two vga cards in the same device called sli technology and it means that ur getting the both ram in both vga cards and also u get the proccessing speed of the both cards
Reply:Nope still 512mb as the data from the 2nd card is cloned into the 1st it does however increase the processing power 2 fold.
Reply:Having 2 or more video cards means that those cards are connected and act as one card, so basically having two 512MB video cards is the same as having a 1024MB card
Reply:one of the best things of having dual graphics cards is u can have 2 monitors working at the same time browse the Internet on 1 monitor while watching TV on the other, When your mouse hits the end of the screen it continues on to the other screen, if you have xp or vista just connect a extra monitor to the other video card and you practically on the way.

How good are Intel Graphics Cards?
I know for the most part they're good enough to do every day stuff, but for most Intel Graphics Cards that come with computers, how good are they and how do they sap power from other parts of the computer?
How good are Intel Graphics Cards?
just buy a nvidia 8400gs for $25 at tigerdirect.com if not a big game. if want to play games go for the nvidia 8800gs for $140 or like me get the nvidia 8800gt sc for $175
Reply:intel cards as in most integrated cards are mostly to get you by with basic usage, all the high end gaming machines of dell, compaq, gateway, all use separate cards for the machines. basic use such as movies and operating system look shininess
and some basic games.
Reply:Well it depends, if your running Windows 98 and are only using the computer for word documents and stuff of that nature, then your fine. If you're using XP/Vista, you will want a good graphics card like an Nvidia 8 thousand series and at least 2gb of ram.
Reply:They're fair for day to day surfing and light casual gaming. However most Intel onboard video shares system memory. Some give you the option to choose how much you allot.

Is it better to have two average graphics cards, or one great graphics card?
I am working on building a new PC for gaming. The motherboard supports two SLI ready graphics cards. I was wondering if I should go with two GeForce 7600 graphics cards or one GeForce 7900 graphics card.
Is it better to have two average graphics cards, or one great graphics card?
Dude, if it were me I would fork over just a little more moolah for the GeForce 7950 GX2, hardware tests blow the 7600's out of the water and then when you get greedy, and you will, you can add another 7950 and jump up to quad SLI!!!!!! OH MY GOD QUAD SLI!
Reply:It's better to have one in terms of spending the little extra bit of a cash for quality. Kinda like a quality verse quantity type thing.
Reply:One great one will be good choice.... GeForce 7900
Reply:the two 7600s' wont beat the one 7900 .. tho it will be close ... you would be better off getting 1 7950 now .. then another later on ... sli is great but you dont gain anything unless you sli two good cards ... i have two 7800gts' and they about equal a 7900gtx and smoke a 7900gt any time of the day.. just a tad better in benchmarks, but when i got them the idea was to beat a 7800gtx and the top of the line ati cards which they did .. its still an awesome setup but the latest games are starting to tax the limits with all the game settings maxed ...
Reply:lol. So long answer short :
Use one card!
Reply:Whats the point of having 2? Just get a great video card!
Reply:If you had to average cards connected, or one great card, the great one would out do the 2 average ones. A great card has more pixel pipelines, faster core clock speed, memory clock speed, and the better ones use the ram more efficiently. So, get the single great one over the 2 average ones.
Reply:It wouldnt do much good considering you can only use one at a time!
Reply:One great one would be much better. A good picture is worth a thousand words, a bad picture isn't worth much of anything.
Reply:Go with the one its faster for the computer to search for 1 then 2 same thing with running off of them! And you dont need 2 anyhow. Just more watts off the power supply!

What type sort of graphics cards are compatible?
I currently have a Medion 8383XL running a Nvidia GeForce 6610 XL and want an upgrade what sort of cards are compatible with my computer?
What type sort of graphics cards are compatible?
If you bought your computer with a video card already attached to it, in this case, NVidia GeForce, try the same brand. It wouldn't hurt since that brand is tested. Youre just doing an upgrade. Upgrade your card with another Nvidia GeForce card that is much suited to your preference. Of course, your present graphics card should exactly match one parameter. The port. If it is PCI-E or AGP, etc. The upgrad card should be PCI-E if the 6610 is also PCI-E.
Browse here you might see something.
Reply:Before you jump in and buy a new card make sure your power supply is sufficient enough, some cards need extra power connectors straight off the supply and the high cards need some serious juice to power them.

How is the performance of the new Nvidia 9000 series graphics cards?
Has anyone tried out these new cards yet? I have a 8800 GTS and was thinking about upgrading, but I certainly don't want to if the performance boost is only marginal. I could always Sli another 8800 but I was curious if anyone has an opinion on the new cards yet.
How is the performance of the new Nvidia 9000 series graphics cards?
SLI for now, the 9800GX2 is nothing special, If you already have an 8800 then SLI.
You should always try to skip a generation when upgrading, and the G92, isn't much of an improvement over the 2 year old G84.
When the 2nd batch of G100s and R700s hit the shelves, that's the time to upgrade

I'm running XP SP2 on an Asus board. I swapped some graphics cards around and everything is working but when you try to put the PC into standby mode the stand-by option isn't lit up and doesn't work.. Power Options is set for Home/office and I can't see anything in BIOS to change. Any ideas?

Is anything showing as a problem in Device Manager (yellow exclamation marks or red crosses)? That normally causes standby to be disabled.
Reply:You have install the device driver for the graphics card you are using now,or slot back in your previous graphics card.

What kind of graphics cards is suitable for a Dell Inspiron 6000 laptop?
Visit Dell's website to find out what video cards comes with that particular laptop model. Unlike desktop computers, laptop's video cards are hard soldered with the motherboard and not upgradeable. So do your homework of researching, since you will be stuck with that particular video card for the entire duration of the laptop's life.

Is it possible to get software updates for PC graphics cards?
When i bought the PC it Windows XP Home installed and a standard VGA graphics adapter. However since then i upgraded to Windows Vista Home Premium and the graphics card doesn't work properly. Are there any free updates available to rectify this problem or do i have to fork out for a new graphics card.

Is it possible to get software updates for PC graphics cards?
You'll need latest driver for your new Vista. Make sure you know the model of your gfx card. (example: nvidia geforce fx 5200, ati radeon, intel express 3d, etc.)
For nvidia, go here: http://www.nvidia.com/page/drivers.html
For ATI : http://ati.amd.com/support/driver.html
For Intel : http://www.intel.com

Reply:The type of grpahics card would be nice, but windows should find new updates for your card in windows update if it's an integrated graphics card. Other cards like ATI and NVIDIA can get their drivers from their sites.
If you have a really old card like a NeoGeo, then you're really going to want to get a new one.
Reply:You have to load the drivers for your card. Video cards, sound cards, and network cards do not always get installed automatically when loading Windows. If you know the make and model of your card, go to the manufacture web site and download the drivers.

For ATI : http://ati.amd.com/support/driver.html
For Intel : http://www.intel.com

Good luck!
Why do some graphics cards for PC have two DVI outlets? What would you use the additional outlet for?
I have a custom made PC with 2 ATI Radeon X1600 Pro graphics cards running in crossfire configuration. Each card has two DVI outlets. My 17" monitor has only one DVI inlet. What do you use the additional outlets for?

its so you can hook it up to a second monitor if you want. My PC is custom made too and I have a Nvida 6200 LE card it has DVI and a s-video and another out port. I use the DVI to my comp and S-Video to my TV. Its like having two monitors but I use the tv to watch movies from my computer.
Reply:they use them for two things:
1. running multiple monitors
2. running large high res monitors that have dusl dvi

Which graphics cards are copatible with intel celeron?
I have a PC with intel celeron 2.4 ghz, I have tried many graphics card on it but they do not work.Do you have any suggestions?
Which graphics cards are copatible with intel celeron?
Graphics cards and processors are not the compatibility issue. Any card can go with any processor. The issue lies in the motherboard. Check to see what kind of slot it has: AGP, PCI, PCI x16, etc. Then, you have to buy a matching card. Also, make sure your power supply has enough power to run the card (most cards today require around 500 watt psu - not all 500 watts goes to the card, but that is the minimun for the whole computer). Then, some graphics cards have plugs to plug the psu into it to provide extra power, usually 6 or 8 pins. Make sure you use these. If this still doesn't work, make sure the settings in the BIOS are setup to allow use of the slot you are using on the motherboard for the card (PCI, x16, etc.). Finally, there may be an issue with the motherboard such as a broken slot. Happens every once in a while. Try a different mobo if you can. But, it is extremely unlikely that a processor is causing compatibility issues with a graphics card.
Hope this helps, good luck.
Reply:compatability is with the motherboard and the graphics card. i.e AGP PCI PCI-E and PCI-E 2.0

What kind of graphics cards are compatible with a Dell Inspiron E1405?
I'm looking to upgrade my graphics card to play more advanced games.
What kind of graphics cards are compatible with a Dell Inspiron E1405?
the inspirion e1405 does not support any add-on graphics cards,
only the built in intel gma 950
%26gt; best i can suggest is going up with ram, so gma 950 allocates full or maximum 228 mb to graphics
Reply:256MB ATI MOBILITY RADEON X1400
Its the mini pci express standard you should check your manual. I would stick with similar products to what Dell offers to avoid compatability issues.

What happens if I stick 2 graphics cards in my computer?
I just saw an Alien pc with 2 graphics cards in it..is it possible to do this on my dell? and get some high performance or somthign? Its uber dragging I think I need to upgrade the ram..how much does this cost also
What happens if I stick 2 graphics cards in my computer?
If you want your computer to run faster, try either:
- Upgrading just the regular memory, such as adding an additional 512MB or 1GB of RAM (the cheapest method)
- Upgrading the CPU Processor to something newer your motherboard supports (slightly more expensive)
- Upgrading your Graphics Card to the best one your computer can support -- this will ONLY ugprade your gaming/graphics experience (most expensive)
- Buying a whole new set of motherboard + CPU + memory + graphics card -- or just buying a new computer (overly expensive)
If you want to make your games run faster:
- Upgrade your memory [read above] (least expensive)
- Upgrade your graphics card [read above] (more expensive)
If you simply want to try and put two graphics cards togeher, know that;
1. It will only benefit your gaming experience by a little bit, in comparison to getting a whole NEW good quality graphics card your computer can handle.
2. It will allow you to use two monitors together.
3. It will require you to either have 2+ AGP slots or 2+ PCI (or PCI-E) slots or an AGP and a PCI (PCI-E) slot.
4. Your computer wont blow up or anything like that, it will simply use both of the graphics cards.
5. If you want supremely maximum graphics performance, after upgrading your computer with memory + processor, you can install TWO very expensive good quality graphics cards and run them "as one" using SLI (NVidia)
Reply:dont waste your $ on 2 graphix cards upgrade your ram
but if you dont have a g card it will help also think about a sound card
Reply:Dell computer will lock up if u install hardware without their concern.
Thats the gimmick of Dull.. i mean Dell..
Cheap but u cant modify it.
Reply:only if you have a pc with two agp slots or two pci-express slots.
on nvidia it's called SLI
and on ati - crossfire.
Reply:First of all you need to have a PC that is either using Nvidias SLi 3 or 4 chipset or intels 975 Xpress Chipset. Then You can go buy two GFX PCi-Express cards of the same make and model and stick both in two PCi-Express Slots. The Result ?
More GAMING , more shader pipelines = better graphics. More Speed and less reason for overclocking.
Incase you are not interested in gaming , other 3D apps like AutoCad and 3D max rendering time will be decreased by half.
Reply:Computer will say good bye to you
Reply:You need an SLI motherboard to do that.
it use Nvidia Chipset.
Reply:if it fits two video cards then u can use two moniters
more ram never hurts

Where are graphics cards inserted into a desktop?
Are most graphics cards inserted into the PCI slots or the PCI-e slots on a desktop; and also can I insert another card if I still have an integrated card, and also is the NVIDIA GeForce 8500 GT a good card? You don't have to answer the last question, it would just be helpful to me.
Where are graphics cards inserted into a desktop?
It depends on what your computer has some computers have PCI-e x16 some have AGP and some have plain old PCI so before you go out and buy a brand new card makes sure that it is possible for you to use it. And the card is a very low budget card and could barely play games if you would want something decent in the NVIDIA range you would want either an 8600 or above
Reply:Check your motherboard, depends on your motherboard. PCI and PCI-express slots can be used for installing a graphics card. If your computer has some age to it, you might also have an AGP (Accelerated Graphics Port) slot, which is meant for installing graphics cards, its older and slower than PCI-e. Make sure you have a PCI-e slot on your motherboard, and that you buy the PCI-e card if you plan on installing to that slot.
You can install a graphics card on a motherboard that has an integrated card, which will increase performance most likely, because it will take some work off of your RAM and CPU. You might need to disable the integrated card.
You might need to also check and see if your motherboard is meant for ATI or Nvidia. No use in getting an Nvidia GeForce 8500GT if your motherboard supports an ATI.
Also I believe the 8500GT would be okay, go for an 8600 GT or 8800 GT if you can, and another side note, make sure you have a good power supply unit (PSU) I would recommend atleast a 550 watt psu if not more (600 watt).
You can check your psu if you open up your computer look at the side of the unit. I feel there is more to check on but, I'm really tired now and trying to reinstall Vista for a friend who has a nasty virus. If you need more help email me.
Reply:PCI-e slot.
The 8500GT is an excellent card...no need to go beyond, unless you are a serious gamer. I run a LeadTek 8500GT 512 TDH in my 2nd computer and it is great.
One thing you will find out is that there is no limit to how much a person can want. Eventually, you pick something and say, "This is good enough." If you don't do that, you become what we refer to as "The Merchant's Dream."
Reply:In the pci port, if it is AGP in the brown port, and yes nvidia is good.

Do most motherboards support multiple graphics cards at once?
I've noticed that a lot of motherboards have more than one PCI-E slot, does this mean you could have a different graphics card in every slot and have them share the load of work?
Do most motherboards support multiple graphics cards at once?
Not a different graphics card perse, they should be alike. Do Not use two different graphics cards. Yes, multiple graphics cards share the load. Be aware of the chipset used on the mobo. (Motherboard) Research it. For example: An Nvidia nForce 680i chipset will support two graphics cards in PCI-Express x16 slots, at 16x. (16 Lanes) That is both cards will truly operate at 16x. When some motherboard chipsets have two graphics cards operating, one card operates at 16x, and one at 8x. Secondly, there are two versions of PCI-Express x16. There is PCI-Express 1.1 version, and PCI-Express 2.0 version. A graphics card that is PCI-Express 2.0 is backward compatible with a PCI-Express 1.1 slot. Confused? Sorry! Here's sum information that may help clear things up:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pci-express
Reply:yes, but make sure you are putting the card in the PCI-E x16 slot.
another point, you must have the same model graphics card to do this, and you will need at least a 500 watt power supply for most multi-graphics cards set-up.
