Do notebooks require different graphics cards from desktops?

Or are they the same so long as they're compatible? Thanks.

Do notebooks require different graphics cards from desktops?
They are diffenent, one is smaller.
Reply:The graphics card is built into the motherboard and most of them have integrated shared memory with the hardware chip. For example a dedicated graphics card in a laptop is a cut-down version of the nvidia 8600GS card as it maximises the current usage so the laptop can conserve power. So your game says it will run on a graphics card eg. 7900 nvidia when you run it on both the desktop and laptop, the performance is different viz the laptop will be struggling along with the frame rates being poor in comparison with the desktop equivalent, simply because the game is optimised and performs as it should but not on the laptop.
Reply:Yes, different. Desktop graphic cards use the pci-express graphics slot, A laptop graphics chip is very often integrated onto the motherboard, though there are also "descrete" (separate) solutions.

They differ in power consumption, heat generated and size. Some high-end desktop graphics cards consume 80+ watts, so that would drain a laptop battery instantly.
Reply:in some cases yes because of size involved
Reply:nope
